Triplets separated for science
Determining what development is innate versus acquired—“nature versus nurture”—has always fascinated researchers. As they share the same genetic makeup, twins have been the subject of many studies in this area. But it’s difficult to understand how triplets could be separated at birth—without their adoptive parents knowing—for the sole goal of being analyzed by a psychoanalyst with dubious ethics. This is what happened to Bobby Shafran, Eddy Galland, and David Kellman, three brothers who were the subject of a study in the 1960s by Dr. Peter Neubauer. The three brothers met by chance at university 19 years later. One of them, Eddy Galland, took his own life. The story of this experiment is told in the documentary Three Identical Strangers.
The Milgram Experiment
At the beginning of the 1960s, the American psychologist Stanley Milgram undertook a study where he told volunteer participants to give electric shocks to “students”(who were actually actors). The volunteers were led to believe that they were testing learning methods but, in reality, the study was testing the volunteers’ degree of willingness to follow an order that was contrary to their morality. Told to memorize a list of words and then recite them, the students were given an electric shock by the volunteers when they made an error, with the shocks increasing in magnitude for each wrong answer. If a volunteer hesitated in giving the shock, the experimenter would prod them to complete the experiment, with increasing forcefulness. The result of the study was troubling—62.5% of the volunteers completed the experiment, meaning they administered all the levels of shocks up to 450 volts after being prompted by the experimenter.
The Stanford Prison Experiment
In 1971, the American psychologist Philip Zimbardo wanted to demonstrate that certain social situations can induce behaviours that go against an individual’s personal values, especially in a prison environment. Eighteen subjects were selected and randomly separated into two categories: prisoners and guards. The subjects in the study quickly adapted to their roles and the guards developed authoritarian behaviours, despite nothing justifying their position of authority. The prisoners, on the other hand, accepted the cruel treatment despite being allowed to leave the study at any time. This study inspired the 2015 film The Stanford Prison Experiment.
The Push
Did mentalist Derren Brown go too far in trying to prove that he could convince someone to commit murder? Can social pressure actually push someone to commit murder? That’s the premise of the reality TV show The Push, released in February 2018 on Netflix. In the show, 70 actors took part in an extremely elaborate setup to convince the subject to push a man off a building. The show focuses on Chris, a young, ordinary man who experiences a descent into hell. Will he go all the way? The experiment is so horrible it’s a wonder the subject hasn’t filed a lawsuit.

Nazi experiments During the Holocaust, Dr. Josef Mengele conducted cruel experiments on Jewish prisoners, in particular on twins, with the goal of demonstrating the importance of heredity, thereby confirming the Nazi preoccupation with the superiority of the Aryan race. Nicknamed the Angel of Death, Mengele mistreated his subjects and many of them died during the experiments that included amputations and the intentional injection of diseases. Adopted after the war, the Nuremberg Code now outlines “acceptable” practices for medical experimentation. The Nazi executioner escaped justice and died in 1979 in Brazil. Slaves as guinea pigs James Marion Sims, known as the father of gynecology and the inventor of the speculum (the cold, intrusive object used to observe the interior of the vagina), abused black slave women by conducting experiments on them in 19th-century United States. These women, who were operated on without anesthesia, could not refuse to be experimented on—the approval of their “owners” was sufficient. The Monster Study In 1939, 22 orphans in Iowa were subjected to an experiment on stuttering and language development. Divided into two groups, the children received different forms of therapy—positive and negative. While half of them were encouraged and congratulated for their fluency in speaking, the other half were humiliated for every little mistake in their speech. Some of the children who received the negative reinforcement developed language difficulties and psychological scars that lasted their entire lives. The study was deemed so troubling that the peers of its author, Dr. Wendell Johnson, referred to it as the Monster Study. In 2007, seven of the subjects received financial compensation from the University of Iowa for the trauma they endured. Unit 731 This special unit of the Japanese Army was created in the 1930s to develop biological weapons that could spread the plague or typhus. Members of the unit, directed by microbiologist Shiro Ishii (pictured), vivisected Chinese prisoners and exposed them to deadly viruses. It is estimated that Unit 731 killed tens of thousands of people during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Imposed sexual parts Born a male in 1965, David Reimer underwent gender reassignment surgery after a botched circumcision destroyed his phallus. According to the medical recommendations of Dr. John Money, a psychologist specializing in sexual identity, he was raised as a female by his parents under the name Brenda. Money used this case to show that gender identity is learned. But, in reality, Reimer did not take to his gender reassignment well and demanded to be considered a male at age 15. After a tormented life, Reimer took his own life at age 38. Even today, gender reassignment surgery is performed on babies whose sexual parts are considered abnormal. link

All such sad cases. What people do to each other astounds me. The pain some inflicted on others is just horrific. Experiments done on twins and women and others in those Nazi camps is beyond belief. How those poor people must have suffered....

How those poor people must have suffered.... The Dionne quintuplets: The exploitation of five girls raised in a ‘baby zoo’. linkCanadian too... Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe started spreading the news right after he helped to deliver five identical girls in a farmhouse in Corbeil, Canada, on the morning of May 28, 1934. First, he ran into the girls’ uncle, informing him that his brother and sister-in-law had just gone from parents of five to parents of 10. Then, the doctor went to the post office the next town over and told everyone inside. After that, he told a store clerk, who said he should tell the local newspaper. But the girls’ uncle had already done that. The editor of the North Bay Nugget immediately put the amazing news out on the wire service, then sent a reporter and a photographer to the farmhouse. Within six hours of their birth, the Dionne quintuplets — Yvonne, Annette, Cécile,Émilie and Marie — were photographed for all the world to see. The dangerously underweight babies were removed from the butcher’s basket keeping them warm and positioned next to their dazed mother, who had barely survived the birth herself, to get the shot. The exploitation of the Dionne sisters is the subject of a new book,“The Miracle and Tragedy of the Dionne Quintuplets,” by Sarah Miller, who has previously written about other young women who made headlines, like Lizzie Borden and Anastasia Romanov.

Did those 5 baby girls survive? How on earth did the mother give birth or was it a C-section? It's a shame that more respect for the babies and mom was not shown. Sometimes people are really distasteful, when they do the things they do, like in this case in wanting to exploit those girls.

I mean, but go ahead and do your dance. Shuffle your feet and say the links are biased or whatever without actually reading the content or addressing the facts of the content. It's a game. I know it well.

Study of nuclear explosions in outer space "Starfish Prime", one of the US projects to study nuclear explosions in outer space. On July 9, 1962, a nuclear warhead with a capacity of 1.45 megatons was detonated at an altitude of 400 km. Under the influence of an electromagnetic pulse in Hawaii, at a distance of 1,500 km from the epicenter, hundreds of pieces of electronics failed, and three satellites collapsed from orbit. Do you think this is unethical given that Operation Starfish in Honolulu resulted in about 300 traffic lights not working (so casualties were inevitable)?
