Interesting quick video of lithium placed in water, and why 1200 lb car batteries can be extremely dangerous.

This bus has a bigger battery than an electric car, wouldn't want to try and put it out with water.

Yep, but just like COVID since electric vehicles are the big thing now this dangerous effect will not be talked about. After the hurricane flood in FL many electric cars burst into flames. It's political and when something goes political science and even safety are tossed out the window.

A punctured lithium-ion battery can lead to a serious fire in some cases. Potent electrolytes can leak through the hole, often creating chemical reactions that release heat. This heat can then damage other battery cells, creating a chain reaction of damage. This process is called thermal runaway.
A few months ago there was a car incident a block away from where I live. The fire fighters could not get the fire to stop.

I remember these busses in Chicago in the 1960's No batteries required. Two long/pivoting arms reached up to the wires that were over all the city streets.

They don't seem to want the public to know how flammable those electric car batteries are, but they do seem to burst into flame alot more than you'd think. Not safe to put one in your garage. When they do burst into flame it's hard to put out and it's a darn hot fire. In order to 'Lectric vehicle to be practical that problem needs to be addressed. Youtube has lots of videos of 'lectric cars bursting into flames.

On the topic of democrat ideas- in the Wall Street Journal of today 03-27-23 there is an article about New York wanting to ban all gas stoves too, just like in California. That's the liberals for ya they like to ban things, tax & spend and regulate a business to death. That'll give everyone huge electric bills hurting the poor the most of all. In fact New York wants to ban all natural gas and fossil fuels into new homes and all new construction. They are now haggling on when it should start, some liberals want it to start January 1st 2025, others say 2028 will give more time to faze out fossil fuels. Some want exemptions for restaurants. California wants to ban candy.. www.thestreet.com/politics/are-skittles-getting-banned-in-california

Our electric has gone up considerably in the last two years due to renewables regulations, while dependability has gone down.
I'm thinking of getting a thousand gallon propane tank for backup. On site energy supply, not dependent on a central distributing system.

Yep we just got a notice from our electric company PSO that our rates are going up due to windmills and solar panel costs. The utility company said their costs for energy has gone up $2.4 BILLION Dollars- welcome to the world of green where the poor and low income can't afford to heat their home.

Get that notice in the mail yet about PSO hiking our electric rats again because of the costs of windmills & Solar panels? I got my notice yesterday. Going Green will cost the utility about $2.4 BILLION dollars according to the notice. If Trump was president this would not be happening. This doesn't hurt the rich it hurts the low income & middle class.

I backed checked two similar winter electric bills for about 800kw.
February 2021 was $132 @ 807kw used.
February 2023 was $168 @ 803kw used.
The rate per kw/hr didn't go up, the supply cost adjustment did.
We're on a no profit co-op so we pay incurred cost as you go, adjusted by what you use.

I've seen large tracts of land clear cut for wood the last couple years. When we moved here there were only 2 local outfits that sold wood for heating. Last couple of years the count has gone up to 16 sellers. Our population has dropped about 1% so it isn't more people.
The lower incomes are really suffering with this.
As we drive into town in the middle of winter when there is no wind, we're starting to see that blue haze in the air everywhere from so many woodstoves going in town. Didn't have that 5 years ago.

sauerkraut, I am not for electric cars. I will keep our Rogue which gets 30 to 34 MPG or my gas guzzler of dodge pickup which gets 12 mile emtpy or loaded. He is a bigger than 1/2 ton but not a 3/4 ton and is 4 wheel drive 4 door. I have pulled loads i could not have done with a 3/4 ton.

Yep going green is not cheap and it hits the poor & middle class the hardest, the people the democrats claim they care about- the rich don't care they can afford anything it's the working class that gets hit the hardest. Windmills also destroy large areas of land that can't be used for anything else as do solar panels. The cost of going green will cost the utility company $2.4 BILLION dollars according the letter I got in the mail. The cost gets passed along to the customers. And there are likely more hikes coming.

This is just the start of rising rates. Good luck charging that electric car a few years down the road. Those standard medium 220v chargers (6 hour) use as much power as 2 or 3 central AC's running at one time.
