The one thing that always surprised me is that the "Chiefs" name is allowed to stay so many other teams had to change their names because it was offensive to Indians. Even high schools had to change the names of their sports teams because Indian names were too offensive.

I know they had to quit using the guy with the Indian head dress that rode the white horse at the game. The tomahawk hand chop isn’t supposed to be used anymore at the games.

That "Tomahawk" chop was also a issue in Cincinnati, some Ohio team used it back in the 1990's. Can't remember if it was a Cleveland or Cincinnati team.

Not really -it's a Indian name, or it came from Indians and is used as a name for someone who is the top dog, the big honcho, the big cheese, or the big chief.. The name "Chief" was used in the movie "One flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". I guess the word has become more common, but still when someone sez "Chief" it kinda makes ya think of Indians. Many teams were forced to change their names back when it was thought to be insulting to Indians, from pro team names to College sports teams to High School sports teams. Some high schools even had to change their mascot because he looked too much like a Indian even if the school team name was not Indian. That's how PC flows & rolls I guess.

So, what should we call the Joint Chiefs of Staff? Or a Chief Executive Officer? Look up the etymology of the word Chief and get back to me.
