The percentage of Americans who say they believe in God has dipped to the lowest number in the past nearly 80 years, according to a new Gallup poll published Friday. The Values and Belief poll, conducted from May 2 to 22, showed 81% of people answered that they believe in God. That is down six percentage points from the 87% of respondents who said they believed in God in the 2017 poll. This year is the lowest percentage in Gallup’s trend since the public opinion polling company first asked the question in 1944. This year’s poll found 17% of Americans said they do not believe in God. When asking the question first in 1944, again in 1947, and twice each in the 1950s and 1960s, a consistent 98% of respondents said they believed in God. When Gallup asked the question nearly five decades later, in 2011, 92% of Americans said they believed in God. www.yahoo.com/news/number-americans-believe-god-drops-171000253.html

I guess humans have finally started to come to their senses and accept reality… What reality, that they came into existence from nothing and their ancestors are zoo animals? It must be interesting at the holidays at your place. Cousin orangutang and uncle moose. Then there is Great Grandad hyena and your distant kin are in a fish tank.

While I agree with the poll... again it is a BS poll as 99.9% of the polls out there are. Poll a million people and I might believe a poll.

Even if the poll were accurate, it says 17 percent do not believe in God, which means 83 percent do believe in God. That is hardly something I would boast about if I were an atheist.

God never gave up on me. Just an fyi for those trumplicans who think they have a direct connection to God. He DOES answer prayers for everyone regardless of political affiliations. Something some here don't get. A Bible college friend said to me once you will be surprised who you will see in heaven. I believe THAT completely. Far left( and far right) believers probably will never get that.

A person does not need to be a Trump supporter to be a Christian, but they cannot support things God says he hates and be a Christian, like abortion and the LGBTQ agenda.

I accepted Christ as my lord and savior in 1975. You have no clue about my life story. You just assume. I hate abortion,I don't support it. God has shown me mercy beyond what could be expected. I deserve a fate in this life FAR worse than I deserve. If a woman has has decided to have an abortion it's something she will have to answer to God. I would hope she didn't choose that route.I would never condemn a woman for having one. My daughter just adopted a 11 yr old black boy. Surpise, huh?🙄

How is it that you seem to align yourself with God-haters rather than Christians? I do not know your story, and I am happy you recognize abortion is wrong, but how can a born again Christian be friends with a person that mocks Jesus? I cannot be friends with people like that. I can be friends with unbelievers, but not God haters.

Had this discussion with John on another board. But frankly a god that demands devotion a the thread of eternal torture in 'hell' is not a God I want. I know a lot of non believers that have done more good in this world than some bible thumpers will ever do. But because they refuse to bow and worship they will (in your belief) be condemned to hell. And the bible thumper who kicks dogs and strolls by hungry veterans on the street will be welcomed at the gates. Nope you can have it.

What makes you think the person that kicks dogs and strolls by hungry veterans on the street is going to Heaven? That is directly in opposition to the Christian faith and what it says in the book of James.

But frankly a god that demands devotion a the thread of eternal torture in 'hell' is not a God I want. I want to ask you about this too. There is a difference in not wanting God and not believing in God. What are the alternatives? Everything we see came from nothing, or it came about by intelligent design. To me, intelligent design makes far more sense. Then there is the question over if there is a God, what is He like? I can understand not being convinced God is real or wondering who He is, but to say there is no God because He is not what we want is not logical. I do not believe this is the case, but what is to prevent the creator from being bad? I am just speaking hypothetically. Who is to say that God cannot be jealous and demanding, and cannot have created a Heaven and a Hell?

Who is to say that God cannot be jealous and demanding, and cannot have created a Heaven and a Hell? Very valid points. I should have said I don't believe in God, I'm a show me some proof kind of person. A big invisible being that waved his hand (or wand) and created Earth? Naw.. I'll go with science and that thing called evolution. When I say he is uncaring and demanding I say that in regards to those that believe and wonder how and why they can just turn a blind eye to the ugly side of things. Honestly? I think most people who believe are afraid not to. They are afraid if they are wrong they will be sent to hell. That's pretty sad reason to worship someone or something.

But the person that spends their entire life helping others, helping animals but doesn't believe in God goes to hell regardless. Guess it just sucks to be a non believer.

Thank you for clarifying things. When I first got saved, it was out of fear of missing the rapture and then hell, but something happened after I accepted Jesus. The fear immediately disappeared and was replaced with peace. Now I do not just serve the Lord because of fear, but because I genuinely want to. I cannot believe that there was an explosion of particles that we do not know where they came from and here we are. It is like the example I have given about walking into a city and having someone say it just came about through evolution: the buildings, the streets, the cars, everything. This creation is way too intricate for that.

These are people that mock the resurrection, and you thought that was amusing. Yes, He did die for them, and I cared enough to share the gospel with them, and tell them they could repent and be saved, but I am not going to be friends with someone like Maxx or even Pomme.

Here is what Jesus said about those who are His friends. John 15:14 "Ye are my friends, IF ye do whatsoever I command you."

Did you care enough about your friends to share the gospel with them? Did you care enough to give them the good news that no matter how much evil they did, Jesus will save them if they repent? Did you warn them there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun? I did do that, because I do not despise them. I despise their beliefs and their attitudes. If I despised them, I would be like Jonah and wish their destruction rather than warn them so they can be saved. I want them to be saved, but I will not be aligning myself with them and chuckling with them when they mock Jesus and make jokes about things like the murder of babies. I will not support candidates for office in league with Satan either like Joe Biden, who supports abortion and marries homosexual couples.
