I know a lot of people who like them. How do you prepare yours? I'd like to try them but it's intimidating seeing them in the can plain lol. I usually get the ones in hot sauce or mustard sauce, open the can, take a piece out with a fork, put it on a saltine and eat! my Dad would take sardines (in mustard) for his lunch from time to time. he'd have me pack a few slices of buttered bread and the sardines would become a sandwich or 2. have always liked mustard and liked the smell of the sardines... but just didn't like the flavor. not when younger... so trie again not so long ago. was hoping i would have a change of taste... sardines would make a good snack/meal. but NOPE, not working for me even now. mackerel FRESH is a very "fishy" fish. i imagine even more so when canned. think it's loaded with good fats? i always have tuna on hand... canned and in jars... solid in olive oil. i wonder how many people have never had fresh tuna? it certainly doesn't taste like canned.

Fresh tuna (think ahi) is one of my favorite things!

I bought a can of mackerel to try. Never had that before. Heard it was kind of fishy, lol. I'll report back when I get around to trying it out. Apparently you can even get tinned barnacles. I mean I am sure we have all had a boat float over us in the ocean and had a sudden urge to gnaw off some barnacles off the bottom of the boat! lol

They are a delicacy in Portugal, and some people risk their lives in the surf of Nazaré to harvest them.
