So a dozen large eggs, are on average around $5.00 (I don't pay as I have laying chickens of course)
One head of Lettice is around $3.00 on average.(can you believe that during Covid shortages it went up to $8 or $9)?
Butter here is between $6 to $8 (depending on if you get it on sale or not)

Justbec, I think since Covid a lot of people are doing the same. The way they shop has changed. Many are still over buying and keeping 'just in case'. Well I guess we never know do we? Covid and everything that went with it is still very recent and still very much in our minds. Could it all happen again? It could of course. Maybe keeping a little extra is a good idea, just in case. I was shopping a lot more on-line during the shortages. And it helped a great deal, I could find stuff that I needed on-line that just was not possible to find on the shelves in stores. I admit I did hoard dog food and chicken feed. There never was a shortage of chicken feed thankfully, as food for live stock was considered 'essential'.

Still do, I always have a months supply.

Covid forced people to refigure their budgets in order to be able to afford the over-inflated prices of most necessities. Don't expect prices to fall now that the covid nonsense is all but behind us.

Covid forced people to refigure their budgets in order to be able to afford the over-inflated prices of most necessities. Don't expect prices to fall now that the covid nonsense is all but behind us. Some of the prices have not fallen and sadly I don't think ever will. Even though grocery chains are making record profits. Even our government has had to step in to figure out what is going on. It's true what you say, Justme, I learned (or at least I tried) to make my own bread, cooked lentils, got creative with the ingredients I had on hand etc. I was thankful for having fresh eggs and during Covid gave many away to those who ran short. Thankfully my chickens were young and laid plenty.

Covid is when I learned to bake. I never wanted to bother with it but I figured if I had flour I could make breads and pasta.

During Covid, I cooked more Indian food and Indian bread as well. Which I find a lot easier to do than traditional yeast based bread.
