I have a record called "The Swing Era" it's re-mastered original recordings from the 1930's & 1940's. One song called "In The Mood" recorded in 1939 is one heck of a good dance number, it sounded pretty good but I bet it sounded much better in person, recording music in 1939 was hard- it was not possible to capture all that great music on primative recording equipment. If those were original records, SK, they might be worth something.

No they are copies- they were sold as "Big Band Swing Era" songs in one album, they had Glenn Miller & Tommy Dorsey and others, most of the songs were from the early 1940's. The recording technologies of that era were not like today. My mother had a original 78 RPM record from the mid-1940's by Ray Henry & His Orchestra one side is "Ding Dong Polka" The other side is the "Monopol Polka" both numbers are pretty good I still have it, it sounds good but a bit scratchy. I found it on google so I guess you can still buy copies.

Reminds me of the old song by Freddie & The Dreamers "I'm telling ya now" on the orange "Tower" record label.

I used to know a Rhonda in 1974 after high school she was a smokin' hot chick I met her at work she had a tight figure and wore tight jeans, she was absolutely gorgeous. Every time I hear the name "Rhonda" it reminds me of her. I wonder what she's like today? She was so good lookin' I was like jello 'round her I was nervous & quivering..

Tex Williams - Smoke! Smoke! Smoke!(That Cigarette)(1947)
Last march I started working with this grandson 22. Most of the people I work with now are young enough to be my sons or grandsons. Anyways he asks me if I've ever heard this song and starts singing this song. I'm like what the hell where did he learn it and he says from his grandparents. I tell him I heard it quite a bit when i was little in the early 60's because it was a golden oldie then. Every once and a while he'll play it. That kid is different.

That's interesting, TheInfiniteSadness, You're right, in that most youngsters don't have a clue about the real older songs. Maybe if their parents play them at home, they might be more inclined to know and enjoy them.
