Electric car battery charges in under five minutes in track test An electric car battery developed by UK start-up Nyobolt has successfully charged from 10% to 80% in four minutes and 37 seconds in its first live demonstration. It was achieved with a specially-built concept sports car on a test track in Bedford, and is part of industry-wide efforts to get electric vehicles (EVs) charging more quickly. By comparison, an existing Tesla supercharger can charge a car battery to 80% in 15-20 minutes. I wish the price of these cars and the parts and repairs were just as impressive.

350 kw charger, yikes.
The central heatpump/AC for my all electric house is 2.5 kw by comparison.
The elephant unmentioned;
Just noting what they want to add to the electric grid, and the generating requirement that will be needed to be built.

I personally think that as society deteriorates, which it is with rampant illegals invading the country and the criminal neglect by politicians of the grid and and orderly society, that electric cars become far less and less attractive. Frankly who wants to leave their fate in the hands of just hoping their is a working charging station somewhere down the road? No thanks.
And they recently built a new Marathon gas station here with several pumps, not one charger installed. That tells me these companies know this is just another feel good movement without teeth.

As an example (or comparison if you like), my car is not starting. My son worked out what is wrong with it. It is the fuel injector part. And I have ordered it off Amazon for $20! Try doing that with an electric car. There just is no way.
This weekend my son will put the part in for me and hey presto, I have a good running car again.

Not everyone lives in convenient towns whereon you can just hop over to a charging station. More often than not Country folk are ignored unfortunately. What they want and need comes way after the city dwellers' needs. I guess the government wants to pander to those that have the most money first. That's what it really all boils down to in the end. And then you have to ask, where would we all be without farmers? |

The faster a EV charges the shorter the battery life of the EV battery and those batteries are not cheap. EV's can't tow or it burns down the battery faster with an even shorter range-- also fires are a problem with EV batteries and that is never brought up much -if at all. Water & floods can make an EV battery burst into flames too.

The battery tech just isn't there. A thousand pound plus car battery can only hold the energy equivalent of about 2 1/2 to 3 gallons of gas. The weight is still there when it's almost empty. My DW's Cruze can return to a near 600 mile range in about 90 seconds at the pump. That's going to be hard to beat.
