'Lectric vehicle? we don't even have the power capacity to charge up all the cars, and what to do with the toxic chemicals in the battery once it's dead and used up? The batteries also require very expensive rare-earth metals that China has the market on.
Some folks have suggested we send the used up 'Lectric vehicle batteries to the moon, I wonder how long it'll be till people complain we're polluting the moon. The batteries are to toxic for a land fill and much of it cannot be recycled. They jump ahead not thinking the whole thing thru. 'Lectric vehicles run on coal for the most part, and some power plants use natural gas but both are being attacked by Bidens war on fossil fuels. I see a system coming up where only the rich can own cars.
I'll tell ya something else even if everyone had a 'Lectric car the environmental loons will not be happy they will find something else to crow about. They will never be happy they will always find something to attack.

Skimmed over this thread but will give my 2 cents. I have nothing against Electric cars. If someone wants one the go for it. I do have an issue with being forced to buy one, just like being forced to have a vaccine. Electric cars may very well be the wave of the future and that is fine but to think it is going to happen in 5 to 10 years is comical. The cheapest car is a tuna can called a Volt, is almost 40 grand and that's before you get your house wired to charge it. Now if you live in a BIG ass city you might find charging stations but if you live, like I do, in one of those Fly over states that according to some don't even have Kinkos you will drive a LONG way before you find a place to charge that thing.
And speaking of where I live, it's farm country. Farmers spend at a minimum of $150,000 for ONE piece of farming equipment. Now you want them to toss about a million bucks worth of equipment and buy all electric? Sure if you want to pay 10 bucks for a head of lettuce, 12 for a carton of eggs and 20 for a gallon of milk.

I am going to try and hold onto my non-electric older car as long as I can.
I have not seen any charging stations for electric cars at all around here, or maybe I have missed them I dunno?
I might have considered it if I lived in a major city, and didn't drive out of there much. But as there is no likelihood of that, I will not be getting one, unless I have no choice, sometime in the future...
SK did make a good point though, not all electric is 'clean' energy. Some of it comes from coal, so what is the point of it all?

Plus when they die, and can't be charged anymore where do they go? A landfill?

Those are good questions, Justbec, I have to say I am no expert on electric or hybrid cars. I guess I am one who will need to be convinced that they are a better option for the future....

The 'Lectric cars are not bad in many ways, no maintenance, no oil changes, no coolant, no radiator, no spark plugs no distributor or fuel pump or fuel injection. They also have great pick-up and can go fast. But the batteries are turning out to not last as long as was hoped, the batteries are very expensive and require many rare earth metals most of which are controlled by China. What will be done with all the old used up batteries, tossed in a landfill? The chargers are expensive and draw alot of current, don't think our electric grid as it is can handle everyone putting their 'Lectric car on the charger each day after work, we already have rolling blackout and brownouts in some cities as it is. And the environmental loons will still not be happy they will find something else to attack. A good bumper sticker:"My 'Lectric car runs on clean beautiful coal"

arent farms govt subsidized? Yes, One fifth of all farm income comes from government payments. Which in today's economy won't even pay for the fertilizer they need for crops. And considering only 1% of our population farm and work 7 days a week, 365 days a year that subsidy is peanuts.

For and against electric cars. These questions do have to be asked and answered.
