The evidence of how climate change is already affecting our world seems to grow more pronounced with every passing day. At least 2,000 cows at a Kansas feedlot were killed this week by excessively high temperatures, as the latest record-breaking spring heat wave pushed east across the country. “This was a true weather event — it was isolated to a specific region in southwestern Kansas," A.J. Tarpoff, a cattle veterinarian with Kansas State University, told the Associated Press.“Yes, temperatures rose, but the more important reason why it was injurious was that we had a huge spike in humidity ... and at the same time, wind speeds actually dropped substantially, which is rare for western Kansas.” On Wednesday, the National Weather Service advised more than one-third of the U.S. population to remain indoors to protect themselves against that same potentially deadly combination of heat and humidity. Scientists have termed that lethal mix the "wet-bulb" effect. When the body gets hot, it sweats, and the evaporation of that sweat helps cool the body. But when the humidity in the atmosphere is too high, that evaporation isn't possible, and the sweat doesn't help cool the body down. www.yahoo.com/news/its-not-summer-yet-but-climate-change-is-already-showing-its-teeth-in-2022-184746783.html

It's hot in the summer, who knew ? Should have a couple of shade trees in those poorly set up feed lots like we do around here. A pond or two wouldn't hurt.

From what I read, it was more the extreme humidity and lack of breeze combined with the heat. Those are unusual circumstances for that particular area.

We're right near summer solstice, few days away. Sun elevation at 1:10 pm is 77° elevation (meridian) where I'm at.(N.C. Arkansas) Shade is the most important for overheating cattle. Anything else is a lesser contributing factor.

Yes we kill and eat those cattle, but I never liked those kind of feed lot operations. It's cruel to the animals in hot weather. Commercial feedlot operations didn't really start till the 1960's, not a good indicator of AGW. More like political fearmongering enabled by a spate of hot humid weather, affecting a not well thought out way to mass produce meat in a small area. www.bing.com/images/search?q=kansas+feedlots+%2f+images&qpvt=kansas+feed+lots++%2f+images&FORM=IGRE

Never said anything about AGW. Didn't say you did. It's the topic of the thread. Although using cattle in feed lots with no shade near summer solstice as an example is quite lame. I call it fear mongering.

Yes, climate change is having an effect.
A quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide. If I recall correctly it's equal to something like the size of 3 United Kingdom's of new vegetation each year.

If I recall correctly it's equal to something like the size of 3 United Kingdom's of new vegetation each year. The more CO2, the more vegetation. The more vegetation, the more oxygen in the atmosphere. The more oxygen in the atmosphere the better it is for us to breath. I am very pro-CO2!

Did you know in the 70's the 'experts' were predicting the next Ice Age.. Yeah I'm super worried about global warming.
In the thirty years leading up to the 1970s, available temperature recordings suggested that there was a cooling trend. As a result some scientists suggested that the current inter-glacial period could rapidly draw to a close, which might result in the Earth plunging into a new ice age over the next few centuries. This idea could have been reinforced by the knowledge that the smog that climatologists call ‘aerosols’– emitted by human activities into the atmosphere – also caused cooling. In fact, as temperature recording has improved in coverage, it’s become apparent that the cooling trend was most pronounced in northern land areas and that global temperature trends were in fact relatively steady during the period prior to 1970.

Of course, climate change happens. It has been happening since the earth came into existence. What I do not accept is the junk science that claims man is the cause. What truly saddens me is how ignorant folks can be . They want to tax cow pharts in new zealand , blaming cows for climate change . YET , check this out . AMERICA used to have untold numbers of big huge bison roaming all over . THEIR PHARTS DIDNT SEEM TO END THE WORLD . THIS is A HOAX for power and control . Sure climate change is real , but its always been the case . It might be getting worse too . But that is due to end time signs . Forty years ago they preached of the big coming freeze . Next week they gonna blame SADS on climate change . This generation is gone my friend . This world is gonna get far worse and they will unite as one thinking its all for the good of humanity . Folks have no idea history is repeating , only this time on a world wide scale . Those who love the idea of the BBB new world empire , those who love the idea of the coming digitalized world , are gonna find out too little too late that the very system they praised , WAS NOT FOR THEM . NEVER WAS . IT was for those in power so they could have Aboslute power . People are like sheep my friend . THEY buy about anything if its spun to them .

Well in Oklahoma a lot of big ranches are being bought cut up into lots and build new homes on them for 250,000 to 500,000. On a lot where you can spit out the window and hit your neighbors house. I know of 2 of the best hay fields that they are ripping the grass up and laying new sod on them. Yes the builders are making money. But hay is getting crazy high around here. I bought my small amount of off of the one that is about half full of houses. Always told the guy before hand on how many i wanted and he cut the price a little. Been calling around and it almost twice as high as last year. But the fields look good. Ok rant over.
