Nasa names first woman and black man on Moon missionThe US space agency Nasa has named the four astronauts who will take humanity back to the Moon, after a 50-year gap. Christina Koch will become the first woman astronaut ever assigned to a lunar mission, while Victor Glover will be the first black astronaut on one. They will join Reid Wiseman and Jeremy Hansen to fly a capsule around the Moon late next year or early in 2025. The astronauts won't land on the Moon, but their mission will pave the way for a touchdown by a subsequent crew. www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-65165845

Godspeed to them, they are very brave people. I knew a female Dr./Astronaut who went up on three missions.

But the real question is: Are they most qualified crew? or is it done on skin color and sex? The VP was picked solely on skin color not on any qualifications.

Sex was always: Male. No, in the past it was the most qualified people to go into space and yes they happened to be white because it must be remembered that in the past few if any women or people of color entered, applied or signed up at NASA for a NASA job or to go into space. if only white people signed up and passed all tests it's no wonder they were all white. Ya can't put a black guy or a gay guy in space if they never even applied for a job at NASA. Today it's not based on qualifications it's based on skin color, sex, gay, trans, or what ever. I'm surprised they don't have a trans going to the moon on that crew or the first gay female of color or what ever. I guess the crew they have now is and seems qualified off hand but are they the best of the best did that crew score the highest on all the testing they done? Did NASA skip over more qualified people in order to have that crew? The way it should be is the most qualified persons go into space regardless if your white, black, green, orange or gay/straight, male or female. It's important to have only the best of the best go into space the lifes of the whole crew are on the line.

The moon is worth exploring further for sure. I don't think there is that much on the moon that is useful- but from what I understand the reason to go to the moon is to set up a moon base and use the moon as a stepping stone on a flight to Mars.

I don't think there is that much on the moon that is useful I don't think that you've been paying attention to this. There are incredible resources on the Moon that can be exploited, it's not just a stepping stone. For example: Helium-3 is one moon resource that is rare on earth but much more abundant on the lunar surface and could potentially be cheaper to mine from the moon. Helium-3 is a very attractive fuel for future nuclear fusion reactors. China, Russia and India have all expressed interest in sourcing lunar Helium-3 for use on earth. www.herox.com/blog/954-what-resources-could-we-find-on-the-moon-here-are

No, in the past it was the most qualified people to go into space and yes they happened to be white because it must be remembered that in the past few if any women or people of color entered, applied or signed up at NASA for a NASA job or to go into space. Well the women were too busy being 'barefoot and pregnant' and black people were too busy trying to survive the aftermath of slavery, Jim Crow, racism.... They were deliberately kept out of the work force and discriminated against. There were so many obstacles put in their way. If that had not been the case, we would have had a female and a person of color going to moon way before now. Now finally maybe those who would not have had a chance before, can prove that they are intelligent enough and qualified enough, to do the job, as any white man. And actually they are the most qualified of all.

Did NASA skip over more qualified people in order to have that crew? Did they do that in the 1960's? and the decades that followed do you think?
