Interesting names they give those horses. Does anyone remember 'Red-rum'. He was a prolific winner in the UK when I was a kid.
Good luck with that, jumbo, hope you win big!

I will be watching the race! First big North American race of the racing season! Cheers true. the triple crown races, at least used to be, the biggest races in the country. now, the breeder's cup almost overshadows them, but not quite. has woodbine started yet?

Yes, iamjumbo, Woodbine opened up the first weekend in April. The Queen's Plate is in June and the Breeder's Stakes in August. I have never been but would love to. It is about 4 hours away from where I live. We do drive by it when we fly out of Pearson International Airport and I often think when we drive by, I would like to go there someday...
Hope you enjoy the race!
Cheers

Cheers i love to watch the horses run. i like it on tv, but, there is really nothing like being there. i used to sit in the infield at santa anita, and sometimes i would go into the tunnel under the track. you could hear them run really clear i just love horses

Wow, what a clip. Just says it all. How exciting when Red Rum passed the lead horse right at the end! No wonder he is such a legend.

Well, iamjumbo, what did you think? I thought it was a brilliant race! I really enjoyed it. Was hoping Bodemiester would win but I'll Have Another chased him down, a little Canadian influence in the race! I get emotional with all the stories of the owners leading up to the race.
In our retirement, I would love to plan a trip to one of the major races in the USA.
How exciting for you that you sat in the infield at Santa Anita.
Hope you enjoyed your day iamjumbo!
Cheers

Oh no, I wonder what happened? (I just looked it up and found this): 'The morning after the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs made national headlines again after a man’s body was found in a barn on the racetrack’s backside.
Police believe the man was murdered but a cause and manner of death won’t be known until Monday at the earliest.
The man was identified as 48-year-old Adan Fabian Perez, a native of Guatemala. He was a groom at the track. His body was discovered in barn No. 8 by a track security officer shortly before 5 a.m., said Alicia Smiley, a Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman.
Churchill Downs spokesman John Asher said track officials know little more than the details released by police, but no changes are planned to security on the backside.'How bizarre. Link: tucsoncitizen.com/usa-today-news/2012/05/06/grooms-body-found-at-kentucky-derby-track/

Cheers thanks. it was good, or at least so so. bodemeister ran a good race, if it had been 1 1/8 or less. you just can't set those insane fractions and win at a mile and a quarter. if he does the same thing in the preakness, he'll win. if he tries it in the belmont, he'll end up at the back of the pack. i used to go to santa anita a dozen times a year at least. i really like del mar also. i didn't care for hollywood park because you need an uzi when you go to inglewood
