India lands a spacecraft near the moon’s south pole apnews.com/article/india-spacecraft-chandrayaan-moon-landing-b31109bb08197f33b829e7a6e4edfc6dNEW DELHI (AP)— India became the first country to land a spacecraft near the moon’s south pole on Wednesday — a historic voyage to uncharted territory that scientists believe could hold vital reserves of frozen water, and a technological triumph for the world’s most populous nation.
After a failed attempt to land on the moon in 2019, India now joins the United States, the Soviet Union and China as only the fourth country to achieve this milestone. A lander with a rover inside touched down on the lunar surface at 6:04 p.m. local time, sparking celebrations around India, including in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, where space scientists watching the landing erupted in cheers and applause.

Lots of data being collected. Quite the achievement and all made and done at a fraction of the price it costs in the West.

The south pole on the moon is thought to have water ice deep in the craters that never see sunshine.

Lots of data being collected. Quite the achievement and all made and done at a fraction of the price it costs in the West. Well, let's not forget the west had to first break the ground and do the tuff stuff, the math, and science to see if we could really get to the moon in the first place- and we suffered alot of losses in the early space years, rockets blew up on the launch pad and things like that we had to write the book on space flight sort to speak. If India had to start at square one it would be a different story. Today the rocket science is known so other country's can fly in space following what we have learned by standing on our shoulders sort to speak- however it's all good the more we learn about space the better it is for everyone.
