Electric car shock: Ontario man told new battery would cost more than $50,000 ! Sooch told Global News he was confident in the purchase. “I figured I wouldn’t have any issues with it,” he said. But in October, a warning light appeared on his instrument panel. He took the car to the dealer, but technicians couldn’t find a problem. The light went out. Two weeks later, Sooch said the vehicle stopped charging and the Ioniq was back at the dealership. After diagnostic checks, he said technicians determined the battery needed to be replaced. The quoted cost, including the battery, installation and taxes came to more than $50,000. The battery failure happened at 172,345 kilometres. The 160,000-kilometre warranty had recently run out. “I felt like I got kicked in the privates,” Sooch said in an interview. He said he had two choices: pay to repair the vehicle or scrap it. Sooch chose the latter because the cost of repairs exceeded the value of the vehicle. link

It's 18 degrees here. Those EV makes ZERO sense in my area. There is no way I would want to rely on something like that.

In cold climates the EV battery would last even less longer, not to mention the fire hazards when the battery gets wet. I heard more than one person say that we are heading for a massive train wreck for future generations if we keep on this green energy/new green deal kick, not only with costs of the vehicles but with running out of the rare metals needed to make those cars, those metals are in limited number and hard to mine and China bought up many of the worlds rare metal mines as it is. All hope is on a big Trump win in 2024 or we'll be in for a massive economic crash that we won't be able to recover from. Consumer credit card debt reached 1.08 TRILLION Dollars and the gov't finally has a $Trillion dollars in interest from all of Bidens reckless spending. The nation cannot handle all that debt.

The show "Lets Make A Deal" at night had on a EV car and they priced it at $90,000.00!! and Biden is again restricting more and more energy and oil production, denying oil drilling leases to be re-newed and closing oil fields.
The high cost of energy is the biggest cause of this inflation.

Folks here just laugh when you mention EV's. A democrat victory in 2024 will more or less force EV's on everyone, they want to end fossil fuels by 2030 or some such date as what AOC called for in the "Green New Deal". I guess the plan will be to phase out gas stations and if ya can't get gas (or have to pay $10.00 a gallon and stand in long lines) at the few open gas stations you will be forced to give-in and buy a EV... AOC demanded an end to fossil fuels when she drew up the "New Green Deal" plan giving us 10 years and we'll approach that 10 year time line in the next administration. This next election will determine if America stays as a great nation & world power or we go down to a 3rd world banana socialist republic with two classes of people the dirt poor and the ultra rich- no more middle class or lower class. Once we go over the abyss there will be no return. Bidens war on fossil fuels is just getting started.

A democrat victory in 2024 will more or less force EV's on everyone And a Republican win will continue to see us breathe in smog and polluted air; what's your point? This next election will determine if America stays as a great nation & world power or we go down to a 3rd world banana socialist republic with two classes of people the dirt poor and the ultra rich- no more middle class or lower class. Once we go over the abyss there will be no return. Bidens war on fossil fuels is just getting started. Enough said.

Another issue about 'lectric cars that is never talked about is driver safety the vehicle is full of high voltage and amps, a wire shorts out or some such, a battery fire has no 'on-off' switch, once the battery goes up there is no stopping it.
An example would be if in an accident a wire is cut or broken or touches something it should not touch, or the computer mod is shorted out anything like that there is alot of juice in that vehicle.
I know when ya drive an electric forklift they have an emergency 'battery-disconnect' handle -- So will/Does a 'Lectric car have something like that? Even so that won't do nothing if the battery is shorted out or gets wet. I heard 'Lectric car batteries can burn under water.

Driving around with a 1000lb battery just seems extremely silly to me. Just as a practical matter it's going to be fraught with complications. Who is going to be able to store or install these. What are they going to do with used ones? And on and on. If you have a battery issue, you aren't going to plop in a new battery and get back on the road. Seems that we used to be interested in making life easier, more manageable and more efficient. But, modern day Dems want to plunge us back into the dark ages.
