I don't understand how "the sound of music" has become a Christmas holiday film? but i'l side with those who put "die hard" in the Christmas category.
"the 10 commandments" will air again for the zillionth time tomorrow night. I know i'll watch AGAIN, but rarely get past the red sea. when I think about it, it's not an Easter movie. "Ben Hur" would be more appropriate.
I wish there would be a rebroadcast of "Jesus Christ, superstar"... the live version with John Legend.

The Ten Commandments fits the season because of Passover misspi. it actually has significance for both Jews and Christians as the Passover meal was full of Messaianic symbolism. John the Baptist identified Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." Born in a manger among animals, first to find Him were shepherds guarding the flocks of flawless sheep to be sacrificed at the Passover observance, was perfect in every way, sacrificed during Passover.

foxy, I was thinking Ben Hur actually had more biblical references. Unknown to Ben Hur, he is given water by Jesus. the movie ends with the crucifiction.

I haven't seen Ben Hur in many years. I only remember a chariot race.

A tradition in our family is to watch the Christmas movie "Small One" about the donkey that carried Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem.

The "10 Commandments" on DVD has a extra disc about the making of that film as does the movie "Greatest Story Ever Told" One of them films I forgot which was a lot of work to make they had to re-shoot and re-take many scenes went over budget- I believe both were made around 1955 or 1956.(or I may be thinking of "Cleopatra" that was another tuff film to make Miss E. Taylor kept getting sick and they had to put off filming)

I haven't seen Ben Hur in many years. I only remember a chariot race. I have Ben Hur on DVD and they have an extra DVD disc about the making of that movie. There is one movie I think it was Ben Hur but it may have been another classic like "Cleopatra" or "10 Commandments" that had a blooper where the actors -or one actor- had on a watch but they kinda got lucky since the watch had Roman numerals on it,--or so the tour guide said-- We were told about that blooper during the Universal movie tour we went on back in the 1970's when we visited California. The tour guide mentioned that. We saw the "Psycho House" and Jaws in the pond, Jaws was still a big thing back then. It was a pretty good tour we also saw the Johnny Carson TV set and the set of "Bretta" who was a TV cop.

Two big Holiday films of bygone eras were "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas" one of those films had very rich bright colors, I didn't care for either one but they are rated high.
