Las Vegas Raiders' Carl Nassib comes out as first openly gay active NFL playerLas Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib made history Monday by coming out as the first active openly gay NFL player. Nassib made the announcement in an Instagram post. "I just wanted to take a quick moment to say that I’m gay," Nassib said in a video recording."I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now but finally feel comfortable getting it off my chest. I really have the best life, the best family, friends and job a guy can ask for. “I’m a pretty private person, so I hope you guys know that I’m not doing this for attention. I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually hope that one day, videos like this and the whole coming out process are not necessary, but until then I will do my best and my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting and compassionate." sports.yahoo.com/raiders-carl-nassib-comes-first-220607629.html

It's because he's the first to come out publicly. There's been many gay players but kept it quite, I've heard Troy Aikman was one of them.

Repeating rumors about people's sexual preferences is not okay. If someone wants you to know, they will come out publicly. Why the fascination with others preferences?

Good for him, I just hope he's not pulling a Kaepernick. Kaepernick did nothing wrong. You really need to stop carrying water for white racists. Aikman is married to a woman. He's been married more than once. Aikman, once named the most eligible bachelor in Dallas by Texas Monthly, dated country singer Lorrie Morgan.[27] He married former Cowboys publicist Rhonda Worthey on April 8, 2000, in Plano, Texas.[28] Worthey has a daughter from a previous marriage, named Rachel. Worthey and Aikman have two daughters.[29] The couple announced their separation on January 24, 2011.[30] Their divorce became final April 12, 2011.[31] On June 2, 2017, Aikman announced his engagement to high-end fashion retailer Catherine "Capa" Mooty[32] on Instagram.[33] Mooty has two sons by her ex-husband, lawyer Jerry Mooty,[34] who is the nephew of Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones.[35] On September 1, 2017, Troy Aikman and Catherine Mooty married at the Biltmore Four Seasons in Montecito, California. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Aikman#Personal_lifeKaepernick pulled his stunt because he wasn't good enough anymore. As far as Aikman, he's supposed to be a switch hitter and that was the reason for his divorce. Your Chiefs punter Kennedy was another one. I saw on Facebook this evening that some are already calling them the Rump Raiders, so I doubt some on the team aren't too happy about all of this drama. I also saw where our Fred Clark got arrested yesterday, guess he was driving around town with an UZI.

Yeah, I don't think that anyone cares. He'll still be celebrated as a pioneer or some shit. Nevertheless, he seems like a good dude with the right intentions so I wish him well.

You know you are right. It must be something that is agonized over and with so much anxiety, if you don't "come out" you might be outed. Well I do wish him well and anyone else who is currently anxiety ridden.

There have been 16 out gay and bi football players in the NFL’s 102-year historyi.ytimg.com/vi/RvUPrHUMGmU/maxresdefault.jpgThe NFL has played for more than 100 years and there have been 16 gay or bi players to come out publicly. On June 21, 2021, Carl Nassib of the Las Vegas Raiders became No. 16 and the first one to come out as gay while on an active roster. To only have 16 out players among the thousands who have been on preseason, practice squad or regular season NFL rosters (23,000 and counting in a survey done in 2014) is barely a blip and shows the stigma that still surrounds people who play football. Over the years, Outsports has known of a few other players who are gay but have never come out, even when retired. Dave Kopay was the first player to come out, in 1975, three years after retiring after a nine-year career. Despite their small numbers, these 16 are trailblazers and have inspired many LGBTQ people in sports and every walk of life, so they are to be applauded. Here is the list of football players in the NFL who have come out: Played in a regular season gameDave Kopay (1964-72): Running back with the 49ers, Lions, Redskins, Saints, and Packers. Jerry Smith (1965-77): Tight end with the Redskins. The NFL Network produced a documentary on Smith being gay. Ray McDonald (1967-68): Running back Roy Simmons (1979-83): Offensive lineman with the Giants and Redskins. Jeff Rohrer (1982-89): Linebacker with the Dallas Cowboys. Esera Tuaolo (1991-99: Defensive tackle with the Packers, Vikings, Jaguars, Falcons and Panthers. Kwame Harris (2003-08): Offensive lineman with the 49ers and Raiders. Ryan O’Callaghan (2006-11): Offensive lineman with the Patriots and Chiefs. Ryan Russell (2015-17, spent 2018 in Bills camp): Defensive lineman with the Buccaneers and Cowboys. Identifies as bisexual. Carl Nassib (2016-present): Defensive lineman with the Browns, Buccaneers and Raiders. Attended training campWade Davis (2000-03): Wide receiver with the Titans, Seahawks and Redskins. Dorien Bryant (2008): Wide receiver with the Steelers. Martin Jenkins (1977): Defensive back with the Seahawks. Brad Thorson (2011): Offensive lineman with the Cardinals. Michael Sam (2014): Defensive end with the Rams. Also on the Cowboys practice squad. Colton Underwood (2014-20): Tight end had preseason or practice squad stints with the Chargers, Eagles and Raiders. 2020 updateIn October, Martin Jenkins, a former defensive back for the Seattle Seahawks, was nominated to the California Supreme Court. Jenkins is gay and this was the the first time he widely discussed his sexual orientation. 2021 updateIn April, Colton Underwood came out publicly. The star of “The Bachelor” said he has been struggling with his sexuality his whole life. In June, Carl Nassib of the Raiders came out as gay. (This story first ran in 2019 and is updated when new players come out). www.outsports.com/2019/9/5/20850457/nfl-history-gay-bi-players

Why not keep what you do behind doors private, why does the world have to know? I don't go marching in a "Straight Pride Parade" and boast what my girlfriend and I do in private. What is so tuff about that? I wonder if one day we'll have another federal holiday for gays? Ya think that will happen? Totally crazy the brain just reels

What is so tuff about that? Because after decades and decades of having to stay in the closet 'lest we offend your delicate straight sensibilities, we ain't going back, buddy boy. ...or as the old saying goes, Sauerkraut....
