Are there any bakers here? I am not so much a cake baker. I prefer baking breads and yeast products. Share any tips, tricks, recipes.

I love to bake. I posted this on another thread before I saw this one. I have a good trick for keeping baked goods fresh longer. Throw a piece of bread in the bag or lidded container you store your cookies or brownies in. They'll stay soft and chewy longer. Even works on a cake after you've sliced it.

I made a nice loaf of white bread today. Turned out pretty yummy. I usually like doing my dough with my KA but I have a bread maker out in the garage so gonna play with that. Store bought bread is so gummy and not good. We don't have a lot of options here for fresh bread so I think I will start making it. I was eyeing up an electric bread proofing box as I really love gadgets. It's temp controlled. Probably play with my breadmaker for awhile till i get bored then get that.

In my dreams I can bake bread. In reality I bake rocks. I have tried over and over again, and just can't seem to make any bread that is actually edible... And yet a freind of mine, makes fresh bread each evening with dinner and it comes out amazingly good. I must be cursed is all I can say.

A bread maker sounds like a good idea..
So you mix the flour and the bread-maker does the rest? How does it work exactly?

Yes, it kneads the bread then lets it rise, kneads it again, second rise and bakes it for you. I think bread machine bread tends to be a bit more dense than when i do it by hand but the machine is handy

Yes, but I cannot bake good cookies or cupcakes! I'm no good at making those either... Can you believe that I took cookery in High school and did exams in it?

I really wanted to do wood work and metal work, but I was the only girl interested, so I felt a bit awkward.
So it was 'Cook and Hostess' or "Child Care". I chose the better of the two (I guess), but I had no interest in either...

I made a leather belt and small wood shelf and a couple other things.

I really enjoyed making things out of wood and metal. And I was good at it. I guess the boys had all the fun.. while we girls had no choice but to sweat over a hot stove and (in my case) ruin one dish after another, while the cookery teacher nodded her head in dismay.

Honestly breadmakers are easy to find at yard sales. People give them away. And usually you can find a manual for it online
