i do most of my grocery shopping at either aldi or shoprite. both store reduce meat prices on items when they're at least 2 days away from sell by date. yesterday made some good finds at shoprite.
all reduced for quick sale... 30% off. first find was a rotisserie chicken... can't go wrong with that. pulled meat off bone and made a big pot of stock from carcass. "chicken-ade" is far superior to plain water for rice/veggies.
then their house-blend meatballs... ready to cook. first time buying them. they're BIG, so i browned, cut them in half, and simmered in sauce. will buy them again to flatten as sliders!
then something they had labelled as "porketta"? thick medallions of pork tenderloin, liberally coated with a black pepper based rub. they're simmering in bbq sauce right now.
do you shop for "sale" items?

Not really, I buy what I need on sale or not. I buy all my protein online from wild fork foods. With a 30 dollar membership per year it's free shipping and they are actually cheaper than the store.

My son is a butcher, so we get all of our meat either free or deeply discounted from the meat market owner.

Justbec, is that just in your state or is in all states? I never heard of it.

My son is a butcher, so we get all of our meat either free or deeply discounted from the meat market owner. my dad briefly had a REAL butcher shop in his area... pretty much within walking distance. he became a great customer to the shop owner. then he discovered the guy went to HS with his son-in-law... now my ex. dad would get calls... hey, a box of JUMBO (like 8/10s) shrimp "fell off the truck" and was he interested!? wink! wink! nudge! nudge!
