We have bear and bobcats but they don't worry me much. Ours is strictly security mostly for when hubby worked nights. Now that he is retired the shotgun has been retired to the closet.

We have two that belong to Johnny. I sold the 3 I had, before I met him. At this stage of life, I wouldn't be in a house without at least one or two. Hope to never need to use them. But I don't want to be helpless, if someone gets in here. The home invasion stories out there, are too horrible to be unarmed, IMO.

How do you guys go about deciding what kind of gun to buy? What is it you are looking for a in a gun? For me personally I did research on the best gun for a woman. I want something I can handle and shoot efficiently. I'm not looking to be Wonder woman or Dirty Harry, just protection.

I have inherited most of mine. I bought a few. Have a pair of colts that were my Grandpas but keep them and another one in a safty deposit box at out bank. But i have a few at our home. a .22 pistol i bought when i first got married. But it is mine now. And a 20 gauge shotgun. Also have a 38 special at home i bought at a Flea Market in Tulsa. Oh i have a project .22 crack shot junior rifle. Anyway that is what someone told me. I need to fix the stock and clean it up and buy .22 shorts. Found it in a house they was deserted. We had to clean it up. Glad we looked before we tore it down.

For me, personally, I keep pretty good tabs on what manufacturers make reliable firearms, and when I go to the store, I look amongst those brands. Out of their available stock, I pick among 1: Items in my price range that I want to spend, 2: Which one out of those will best suit my purpose, and 3: Out of those, which one fits my hand best.

I'd love to know how many people that read that had to Google "Bonnie Parker"... LOL (for the record, I'm NOT one of them!)

How do you guys go about deciding what kind of gun to buy? What is it you are looking for a in a gun? @naz, if you want to learn more about a gun, try to find a gun range and ask if you could shoot one from someone in it. I used to go to a gun range and would let a someone new shoot the pistol but would first take the clip out and make sure one is not in the chamber let them handle it. Most people who owns guns are very happy to help someone wanting to buy a gun. There are instructors who can help a lot also. I would recommend a smaller caliber if you have never shot a gun.

The recoil will likely remove the gun from your hand the first time.
