I don't believe they are abusing animals to have them in rodeos. Are you abusing your pet to make him do a trick? Dogs generally aren't twirling or do things unless they are trained. My dog will "spin" on command for a treat. Is that abuse? Just because some activists don't like something doesn't mean it has to be banned. Have you been to a real rodeo?

I have been to Fair rodeos. But haven't been to competitive ones where people are timed and given awards and such. Have you?

YES, no doubt in my mind...
I actually cheer for the horses and bulls when they are stomping and goring the riders that get tossed off...

It's reminiscent of a joey rally except with a lot less bull.

There’s not only nothing wrong with rodeo stock and they also have a high quality of life. Horse racing is where the problem is.

More people are waking up to the rights of animals and the justice that they deserve. Let me know when they start paying taxes and then we can start a conversation about "rights" for animals. I find this comical... do you believe our rights are dependent upon our ability to pay taxes? Do you know citizenship is not required to have equal protection under our Constitution?

Well it's bulls and blood It's dust and mud It's the roar of a Sunday crowd It's the white in his knuckles The gold in the buckle He'll win the next go 'round It's boots and chaps It's cowboy hats It's spurs and latigo It's the ropes and the reins And the joy and the pain And they call the thing rodeo - GB

You need to be a sentient being to have rights. Should not have to but there are laws against cruelty to animals. If people witnessed how cows and chickens are treated, would they still be okay about eating these poor abused creatures?

There’s not only nothing wrong with rodeo stock and they also have a high quality of life. Horse racing is where the problem is. A high quality of life including being zapped with electric “hot shots” so that they’ll charge out of the chute, calves’ necks are twisted as they’re violently slammed onto the ground, and horses are viciously spurred into bucking. Or the “flank strap” which is cinched tight around the bull's torso just before it is released is not enjoyable for the bull.

Or the “flank strap” which is cinched tight around the bull's torso just before it is released is not enjoyable for the bull. 1. First off they're cattle, something you kill to eat. 2. Cows skins are thick, so when they hot shot them it's more of an irritable tingle or sting. 3. They don't hot shot them to get them out of the chute but into the chute, only if needed. 4. The rowels on a spur can't be locked and must spin freely to keep from hurting the bulls and/or horses. 5. The flank strap tickles the underside of a bull and/or horse, it has no pressure. 6. Horses aren't spurred to make them buck, the shanks on a spur are used to hold on when dismounting or coming out of the chute. Again, the rowels spin freely and that spurring action is done for scoring points, completely harmless. 5. Calf roping is no different from what the calves go through when being worked on a ranch.

I didn’t say that we, as sentient beings with rights, should not be responsible for the ethical treatment of animals.

Those horses are worth MILLIONS. Do you think they are going to abuse or treat those horses badly? Yes with out question. So you would buy a million dollar house and burn it down? I dont' think so. Those horses bring in money in racing, breeding, etc. So they need to be in top health for all those things. And it used to be called animal husbandry. In other words, they have to become a good husband in caring and providing for their animals. Are some abused? Probably so but those animals are not going to be prized and valuable for long so that would be pretty foolish.
