15 Stupid American Foods Nobody Wants to Eat Fried Chicken n’ Waffles Fried chicken and waffles, a recent dish that has gained considerable popularity, is a perplexing combination for many people outside the United States. This dish pairs crispy, savory fried chicken with fluffy, sweet waffles, often drizzled with syrup and butter. The contrasting flavors and textures make it a memorable meal. Still, it can also leave individuals from other cultures scratching their heads, wondering who came up with the idea to combine these two seemingly disparate foods. While some adventurous diners may appreciate the unexpected flavor marriage, others might place fried chicken and waffles on their list of strange American dishes they’d not try. www.msn.com/en-us/foodanddrink/foodnews/15-stupid-american-foods-nobody-wants-to-eat/ss-AA1cQECr?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=ce2ae7e942524037a8942f2acf81899b&ei=22#image=2

I do think the fried chicken and waffle thing is odd.

Chicken and waffles is actually delicious. You should try it some time. I prefer it with boneless chicken, but it is pretty good.

I will agree 100% with the circus peanuts, though. Those are vile.

I don't feel like one adds to the other. I just feel like I like them both in their own right. And I can enjoy eating it.

I never really ate biscuits and gravy. But my son and his GF really love it. So when they visited, I decided to make homemade biscuits and sausage gravy and it really was delicious. It was just never something I ever had tried before, lol. Now I can see the fuss about it.

I watched a video somewhere online the other day of some older British schoolboys trying some traditional Southern food. Biscuits were first up. They thought they were scones, but once they tasted them, loves them. Then they put the sausage gravy on them. The boys scoffed, said it looked like vomit (not entirely wrong), but when they tried it, all were like "Oh, this is amazing"! Then the sweet tea came out. It was the first time any of them had iced tea, and again, they loved it.
Sometimes, we need to step outside our own, self imposed parameters and try new stuff!

When we go out to eat anywhere, especially on vacation, I do try to get things I never had before.

waffles (and pancakes or crepes) are not sweet on their own. the recipes have little/no sugar in them. they don't become sweet until the toppings... fruit/jam, syrup, honey, powdered sugar.

The syrup is what ties the chicken and waffles together, IMO. But I have had some savory southwestern corn waffles that just needed some butter. They were delicious!
