Lawsuit asks Ohio Supreme Court to block abortion rights measure from November ballot A new lawsuit from Republicans asks the Ohio Supreme Court to block the abortion rights amendment from the November ballot. The legal challenge, filed Friday, argues that abortion rights petitions failed to list the state laws that would be repealed or changed if the constitutional amendment took effect. According to the lawsuit, those laws include a ban on doctors performing abortions after cardiac activity is detected; a ban on abortions after a fetal diagnosis of Down syndrome; and parental consent for abortions. Attorney Curt Hartman filed the challenge on behalf of two Republicans: former state Rep. Tom Brinkman from Cincinnati and ex-legislative candidate Jenn Giroux. They asked the Ohio Supreme Court to invalidate the petitions and prohibit the measure from appearing on the Nov. 7 ballot. www.yahoo.com/news/gop-lawsuit-asks-ohio-supreme-133114370.html

Yes, but not if you've read his posts. But she has read them. It's just that she doesn't have white fragility, or any excuse to deny any existence of current white racism, and she's not defending a curriculum that says slavery provided a personal benefit to slaves while whining about how terrible, racist and evil it was for whites to be shown unflattering things about their role in America. People who don't freeze up when they see a black person post the word white without the sufficient amount of genuflacting, have seen that I recognize that women have been mistreated just like blacks. That includes white women. So you’re not still mad at white women for taking advantage of affirmative action while not always toeing the leftist line?

It looks to me like they are afraid to let democracy work. Here in Missouri this just happened: apnews.com/article/abortion-missouri-attorney-general-voters-initiative-petition-56ef2731480c786c87d1a8e9be191e2bYou have a bunch of theocrats trying to make everyone else live by their religion. It is beyond ridiculous.

They need to let the voters vote in the issues. Agreed. That was the whole point of the SC decision, these are issues that need to be resolved democratically by the states.

No it wasn't. A nationwide problem should be solved with a nationwide solution. Why do you hate the Constitution? and democracy? The problem for me is that a ruling was made based on it being about states rights. Now people in charge are actively trying to keep people from voting on it and are now talking about a national ban. That is a huge problem imo.

The SC ruling was correct as an interpretation of the Constitution and I believe that it was also correct as an exercise in democracy. We *should* be allowed to vote on this and a plethora of other issues regardless of the outcome. Anyone trying to keep this basic right from us is anti-democratic. Also, based on the SC decision, it would be impossible for there to be a national ban. It works both ways.

Since the constitution says that federal law supersedes that of states The Constitutions enumerates the powers of the Federal government and has the ultimate authorities in those specific cases. Everything else belongs to the States and the people. Why do I keep having to tell you these very basic things?
