Playa Hermosa Location: Guanacaste, Costa Rica Why You Shouldn’t Travel: Waves and strong currents Est. Cost of Visit:$77/day* “Pretty but dangerous” is the expression some travelers use on opinion pages to describe this beach. With an exceptional array of marine fauna, one of the favorite activities of its visitors is diving as well as sport fishing. Located in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, Playa Hermosa is a seemingly ideal refuge due to the low tourist traffic it has; however, on the other side of the coin it is considered by the country’s authorities as one of the most dangerous. However, its greatest danger lies in the strong underwater currents and waves, which have been known to put lives in danger. Perhaps it would be better to opt for a long, scenic horse ride along the coast. link

Wow that is some wave. I think lakes and rivers and oceans look amazing. But I do not like to be in or on deep water, on account that I nearly drowned as a kid. Perhaps it would be better to opt for a long, scenic horse ride along the coast. Most definitely!

I wonder if this beach attracts surfers, some are real adrenaline junkies.

🦍MAXX>ⓤ might be able to tell us more. But you could be right, foxy, those surfers will take on just about anything, the bigger the better it seems.

I can't imagine how those surfers manage those waves.

Tried surfing there in my younger days and by try I mean was trying not to drown more than surfing... It is very beautiful there and as with Quepos some of the best fishing in the world...Some of the largest Mahis and Roosters I have ever seen... The thing about that area is that is is relatively quiet but is slowly being built up by resorts but still beautiful... If you want a retreat to collect yourself and experience nature would recommend it...

If ya get caught in a under-tow the best bet is to swim sideways along the coast until your out of the undertow, ya can't fight it with force. Lake Huron can have some ruff days with high waves and huge white caps, we used to play in the waves as kids.

One interesting place to visit is Vermillion, South Dakota, just west of Sioux Falls they have a park there called "Clay County Park" and a boat ramp with a small dock, anyhow just off the dock maybe 4 meters away in the water there was a big whirlpool, I dunno how deep the water was there it could not have been super deep it was near the shore, I guess they had other whirlpools in that river or area too. I dunno what caused it under water rocks or some under water cave or what ever. I looked it up on google Earth and the dock seems to be gone from what I can tell the boat ramp is still there, I didn't see the whirlpool either. Maybe the state or county did something to fix up that area it was rather remote.
Anyhow that was something to see, the whirlpool was rather large and made a water rushing noise- I never seen anything like that before. I guess they have things like that in the open ocean big whirlpools. I didn't want to go near it or mess with it.
