Thought I would try some Quinoa (pronounced key-noah) a South American seed crop used like a grain. Highest fat content and also has all the proteins needed in the body.....not that I am becoming vegetarian! Anyway, washed through a fine sieve then boiled it for 12-14 minutes, drained then added a dash of red wine vinegar and olive oil. Delicious, nutty and very healthy.

Also tried Puy lentils a few weeks ago which have a lovely peppery taste, absolutely delicious! They go wonderfully with just about any meal.

Sounds interesting, Steve. I like pulses as well, especially lentils. I think nothing beats a well made lentil curry. I don't always have the patience to soak them over night though, although I will.
Do you use them as a side dish or as a soup? I like mine with freshly baked chapattis.

The great think about Puy lentils (apart from their lovely flavour) is that they don't need soaking. Used as side and in main meal too.

Yes, that is true, Puy lentils don't need soaking. I just love the taste of lentils and the fact that they are so good for you, full of protein.

I've tried quinoa. It did not rock my world. I also read that now that it has become a 'fad' grain, the locals for whom it was a cheap staple in the past are now suffering from malnutrition.

I like grains, but if that is all you ever eat, it ain't healthy. A varied diet is the best of course...
