I know it is no big deal, but apparently it is to some.

Accepted everywhere but part of the country came kicking and screaming. Like down south. Would never visit ANY of those states. I'll be honest with you, all my friends that are bipoc (people from those red states indicated on your map) will tell you that the further north you go the worse the racism gets. She will not travel north unless her husband gets stationed there. I have had other bipoc friends tell me the same. I think the south is more open about it but it is rampant everywhere. We have to agree to disagree. Absolutely mixed relationships are more accepted in the northeast

I was in a relationship with a black guy named Kenny back in the early 80's. He was pretty cool. I was engaged to a Trinidadian, dated a guy from China, a guy from Puerto Rico and a couple of black guys. Didn't make a difference to me one way or the other. My parents and friends were very accepting, no problem there. I've had black friends at every stage of my life. Many times I was the only white person at big family and church events. I never felt unwelcome or out of place. Wow! Thanks for sharing that Foxy. I hadn't known that about you. I have a pic on my Instagram( which is private btw)where I'm the only white guy amongst a family of Jamaicans lol!

Racism exists in all 50 states. But again, the matter of being colorblind is about a lot more than dating or marriage. I am talking about a holistic change that addresses the damage that has been caused by public policy. I understand that Im, sorry to wander off on a tangent 😉

I think I get why we keep going round and round on these threads about racism. There is a distinct difference between Racism and Prejudice.@im2 is focusing in on "systemic racism" and many here are focusing on prejudice so we are confused at his insistance that we are a racist country. Those who see a real difference in attitudes and acceptance by white Americans towards black Americans believe we are all on equal footing in the 21st century. For example, when I talk about the friends and co-workers and bosses I have had throughout the decades, I do not see oppressed people held back by the powers that be. I see very successful middle class or above people. Some are political figures, law enforcement agents, engineers, firefighters, educators etc., they have college degrees and are just successful in general. Depending on where you live you will have similar or very different perceptions of the conditions your fellow citizen face due to their race.
I'm trying to hear what you're saying because you speak of things I really don't know about. Your angry, sometimes insulting responses towards me are unwarrented and off-putting and makes me not want to engage with you. I will make an effort to hear you out if you make more of an effort to not be so angry and judgemental all the time.

The guy that hired me for my current job is a black man. He's a brilliant PHD degreed executive for whom I very much enjoyed working for the time he was here. I continue to follow his career through linkedin.

"Your commentary pertaining to blacks is often full of sterotypes and condescending statements about how we should do things. So you stop doing that and you will see that our conversations will be more civil."
Can you be more specific please? Where have I stereotyped black people or was condescending? Any negative comments I know of and own have to do with the detrimental affects of party politics on minorities, never about the people themselves. I want an end to poverty and ghettos. I wish for all black people to be as prosperous as my friends and coworkers are which in many cases are way more prosperous than any in my immigrant family ever were.

No example? OK, you accused me without backing it up. Civility begins with respect. How about we start with you not assuming I am a white racist or even a prejudice person. Those are both inaccurate descriptions that question my character and faith. I would hazard a guess that even the white posters here that give you hell aren't racist at all. I think our arguments are 95% about politics Republicans vs Democrats, not about white vs black. Some see a different way to lift people out of poverty. Personally I don't trust either party.
