She was the original Tiger Mum whose bestseller promoted impossibly strict parenting. Now, a decade on, Amy Chua reveals...'How I realised if I didn't change, my daughter would hate me for ever' She was vilified as ‘the worst mother on the planet’ when more than a decade ago, her book Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother, laid out in detail Amy Chua’s ultra-hardline parenting methods. Sleepovers were banned, A grades were mandatory and her young daughters, Sophia and Lulu, were expected to practise music for up to six hours a day (when they couldn’t master a complex piece, she threatened to burn their stuffed toys). The book caused a worldwide firestorm and ensured that the phrase ‘tiger mum’— an obsessively strict and pushy parent — entered the public lexicon. Amy was seen as nothing short of ferocious. Yet five years ago, the Tiger Mum was de-fanged. Brought down by an initially undiagnosed bout of diverticulitis — a disease that attacks the colon — she was told by her doctor that at one point she almost died. ‘I lost control of one lung, had eight tubes inserted in me, including one in my heart valve, and I lost all my hair,’ she says.‘Every organ was shutting down.’ www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12581663/She-original-Tiger-Mum-bestseller-promoted-impossibly-strict-parenting-decade-Amy-Chua-reveals-realised-didnt-change-daughter-hate-ever.html

I imagine being a Tiger mom must be really stressful.
You have kids, yes you need to guide them and encourage them, but that is all you can do. They are, in the end, individuals that have to live their own lives.
