We're hosting Thanksgiving this year for my family. About 25 people. So I shared the planed menu today with them on FB messages.
Thanksgiving Menu:
Ham roasted to succulent perfection and a small but well developed turkey for those unsure what we should eat. There will be mash potatoes with a succulent gravy for easy swallowing, stuffing (that I'm making), green beans (maybe a casserole form), and yes cranberry sauce. deviled eggs, and rolls with my whipped butter. Sweet tea, pop, or water to drink. Of course in this house there will always be ☕.
I'm thinking a nice platter of fried gizzards to start the day. Sort of like an appetizer.
There will be some of the finest and smoothest chocolate pie to enjoy for dessert. Maybe a cherry and a pumpkin pie for those that don't like 🍫.
Or should we have some banana🍌 pudding?(A holiday staple at our house)
What are some must haves at your house?

Well I would love all the usual Thanksgiving food but when your lady is Jamaican you get what she/ her sister cook.

We usually have two turkeys, one smoked and one deep fried, both delicious. Mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce - all the usual suspects.
Plus, we get treated to what seems like a metric ton of homemade Japanese dumplings made by my daughter-in-law.

It is definitely tasty! And turkey is not my favorite thing. But I do enjoy it one or twice a year.

I love in the bird stuffing, especially if it has chopped apples in it.

I always whip up my butter, half and half, for easy spread. I do set aside a small amount that I add honey to that goes great on rolls.
And weird things people might eat? I always buy a cranberry gel like stuff that comes in a can. No one but me likes it, but that what mom always put on the table. So, I guess it's sort of tradition.

That is the only kind my (grown) kids will eat. And it has to be Ocean Spray ™.

I do need to make my after Thanksgiving sandwich, though. White bread, sliced turkey, stuffing, cranberry jelly, a little mayo and salt and pepper.

on stuffing... whatever didn't fit in the bird... and we REALLY tried to get as much in as possible... went into a baking dish. moisten with some turkey stock... from the neck/giblets that simmered on the stove all day long for when some liquid was needed. the stuffing that couldn't be stuffed was ok but never as good as from the bird. my brother would mix the in-bird with the rest of it before serving.
always a lot of veggies. as cliche as it is, i love the classic green bean casserole... with canned cream of mushroom soup and canned French fried onions. my grandmother would always make creamed pearl onions... something my grandfather really liked.
my Dad and uncle both loved coconut custard pie. i used pre-made pie crusts... cuz mine never came out very good. the recipe is simple... eggs, milk/cream, vanilla/cinnamon, probably some sugar, and shredded coconut.

We deep fry a Turkey, in fact hubby went out to buy peanut oil today. Last year 3 gallons was 32 dollars, today 45.... anyway, it will just be hubby and I but he deep fries the turkey and I make all the sides: Mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, dressing, gravy, corn and fresh bread.
