Chick-fil-A Employee Shivers While Taking Orders Outside After Refusing To Buy $60 Employee Jacket Is it reasonable to ask employees to pay for their own uniform jacket? If you live near a Chick-fil-A, you’ve probably seen the company’s unique way of handling their long drive-thru lines. To keep things moving quickly, employees walk down the line of cars, taking orders from each window. This may be an efficient way to handle wait times, but it could come at a cost to employees, especially employees who live in cold climates. One Chick-fil-A worker is claiming employees must pay $60 for jackets to wear when working outside. DJ, a TikTok user who goes by the name @coolkid._3 on the app, shared a video showing himself standing outside to take orders. The video, which has amassed 3.4 million views, showed DJ in a short-sleeved shirt “freezing” because he “refused to spend $60 for a uniform work jacket.” In the caption of the video, DJ stated that he was left outside for three hours in the cold. www.yourtango.com/self/chick-fil-a-employee-shivers-taking-orders-refuse-buy-company-jacket

I think this is a good article for discussion. How much should someone have to spend of their own personal money for uniforms, etc? Especially min wage employees? Requiring an outdoor jacket seems a bit much. Surely there is some kind of company vest, etc they could easily put over a normal jacket.

The company should pay for one's uniform. Mine does. But they don't supply the golf clubs, only the shirts

I think uniforms should be provided. Asking someone who makes minimum wage to fork over $60 for a company jacket, that is literally like 5 or 6 hrs worth of wages. There is no reason they cannot wear whatever coat and put some kind of vest, apron or something OVER their own personal clothing.
I think when hiring give them the T shirt they are to wear and then if you want to buy additional, then sell them to employees at cost.

When I worked for Domino's Pizza back in the mid - late 80's, we were given two shirts, a hat, and a windbreaker type jacket. We had to supply our own navy blue pants.

If they require a uniform then they should supply it. That should include a jacket if you are making them work outside.
