The Federal Court just overturned Ottawa’s single-use plastic banThe Federal Court overturned Canada's ban on single-use plastic on Thursday, deeming the policy "unreasonable and unconstitutional." The decision found that the classification of plastics in the cabinet order was too broad to be listed on the List of Toxic Substances in Schedule 1 and the government acted outside of its authority. "There is no reasonable apprehension that all listed Plastic Manufactured Items are harmful," the decision read. The decision has essentially quashed a cabinet order that listed plastic manufactured items, such as plastic bags, straws, and takeout containers, as toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said in a statement that the federal government is "strongly considering an appeal" of the decision. "Canadians have been loud and clear that they want action to keep plastic out of our environment," he said."We will have more to say on next steps soon. www.msn.com/en-ca/news/politics/the-federal-court-just-overturned-ottawa-s-single-use-plastic-ban/ar-AA1k3rCr?ocid=mailsignout&pc=U591&cvid=45f5a7d6183f4e2d915ce3af6bda5e82&ei=23

Well it looks like the plastic ban is off, but it might go back on again, if the appeal wins?
I have to say I do miss having plastic bags at hand to bag up my groceries...

I miss the plastic bags, too. I never go big grocery shopping, so I don't have bags in my car. If I go in to the store, it is usually for a few quick things, and I never seem to have a bag.

I mean literally everything we buy in stores is wrapped in plastic in some way. I try to reduce plastic use. We recycle what can be recycled. I store my leftovers etc in glass mason jars or other glassware.

If I shop at Aldi's I just push the cart out and put in the back of my car. I have a covering down so it's no problem. No bags needed.
Keeping a box or basket in my car helps

But every item is pretty much wrapped in some way so saving a bag is nice but I think the larger problem is the packaging, not how we carry it home

I get to tired of looking around for a bag (usually forgotten in my car), or having to buy another material one, to add to the 50 I have already,

Exactly! Since before the ban, I was re-using the plastic bags as bin liners, now I am having to pay for rolls small plastic garbage bags to do the same job. So it makes not one iota of difference in the amount of plastic I am using.

WoW that's serious liberalism there in Canada ban this and ban that. It's almost like California where they banned plastic straws and plastic bags too. My guess is the new ruling won't stand it'll be overturned sooner or latter. Liberalism is really only about 3 major things: Banning stuff, more regulations & rules, and tax and more taxes. The poor get more poor, the middle class become the poor class, and the rich become richer than ever before. It happened like that all thru history with socialism.
We have seen it here in the USA since Biden was put in power, people are suffering under more debt than ever before, consumer credit card debt is around a $Trillion dollars now, taxes are up, inflation is at record heights, the U.S. gov't now has to pay a $Trillion dollars on just the interest on our national debt a new record from all of Bidens reckless spending. Food banks here are more busy than ever, many are running out of food, the homeless population skyrocketed since 2021, rents have increased by 31% nation wide in the USA, gasoline is expensive and the only people doing well are the rich and those involved in the New Green Deal. BTW Ford just announced they will cut back on EV car production no one can has the money for them them & no one is buying them-- it's just being forced on the market place by socialism. The power grid can't handle EV's anyhow we already have brown outs and black outs as it is. Socialism has failed all thru history where-ever it was tried, and you have only two classes of people under socialism the dirt poor and the filthy rich no middle class.
