Gen Z employee ignites a FURIOUS debate after telling their new boss they couldn't attend an 8AM meeting because they 'had a workout class'- prompting outrage from older workers... so, who do YOU think is right? A Gen Z employee has sparked furious debate after telling their boss that they couldn't attend an 8 a.m. meeting because they had a 'workout class.' TikTok users have fired off at the hosts of the podcast Demoted, Natalie Marie and Ross Pomerantz, after they shared their reaction to an email they received from a listener claiming their Gen Z employer refused to attend an 8 a.m. meeting because it conflicted with their 'workout class.' The hosts' response to the email ignited a fiery conversation as people on the web argued about work-life balance. In his viral video, which has so far amassed more than 32.1 million views, he claimed that his work day began at 9 a.m. and he was only given a day's notice before questioning if an employer would reimburse him for his class or pay him for an extra hour. He said:'Okay, let's just say I skip the gym. Two things. When can I expect you to reimburse me for my class? And two, are you going to be paying me from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.? Or at the very least let me leave at 4 p.m. Natalie, if your answer to both of those are "no" then there's no discussion needed.' www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13025125/gen-z-employee-boss-meeting-workout-class-debate.html

I agree with the Gen Zer. Have the meeting during normal hours. No free work. Enough of that.

I read the story. The employee is salaried, therefore getting paid, and this is a quarterly meeting that they knew about before they were hired.
Nope. Suck it up, buttercup. You knew it was coming.

I have worked hourly, salary, fee for service and many other models. Salary was the worst of all, lol. I would not work for salary again unless it was really far more inflated to account for the time abuse.

I have sat thru endless useless meetings. Gone in off hours etc. Waste of time. Do stuff during the normal working hours. I think Gen Z is right to put the brakes on some of these employers who think they own you 24/7. If you want to own people 24/7 then pay them 24/7.

Yeah, one hour for a quarterly meeting is oh, so oppressive.

I was on salary and then realized the more I am working, the less money I am making. lol That was my awakening that 1099 or self employment was a better deal than a W2 life.

I don't mind the occasional after hours work thing and, yes, once in a while it interferes with my workout schedule but for me the benefits far outweigh the negatives. I can deal with medical appointments or what ever without having to lose a couple of hours of pay. I set my own work hours. As long as the work gets done nobody cares. If you take a salaried position you take the good with the bad. If you don't like the bad part find another job.
