No kidding. Seems like a life-time back in time now though huh? seems more like yesterday... especially when much younger people recognize the tunes. About fifteen years ago i learned a reason young people recognise old songs. A new kid (22) at work asked me to go for ride to the store and he played songs that were all early eighties so I asked him how he came to listen to these songs. His dad played them when he was growing up. After that every time i heard a kid playing an old song I'd ask and every time the reply was my parents played it. When I say kids i mean guys who are young enough to be my grandsons. I asked one if he knew how old that song was he was listening to. The look on his face was amazing when I told him it was 60 years old and then some of the kids started arguing with me about it. Nobody thought to look it up so I settled the argument by telling one of them to check. They never think to look things up.

This song became one of my favorites when I saw them perform it on Ed Sullivan. I was 9.

I know a LOT of tunes even earlier than that. had to come from what Dad liked to listen to. when still working, was classroom aide for special needs HS kids. was in one class when they were working on some project. teacher had music in background... it may help some concentrate, but I think it's more of a distraction... another topic. anyway, on comes this song and I start humming along... semi-singing. then realize the kids are looking at me?! one asked me how I knew the song. I told him I was around when it first came out. they didn't believe me... told them to look it up. of course, I was right! it's close to HALF A CENTURY OLD and still popular!

I had a 30 something mom and her daughter ask me to play Elvis's original Kentucky Rain last Saturday. Well that is a real good song.

That's interesting, I play a lot of 'Oldies' when I am driving, and my kids seem to know the tunes now, even though I was not even born when the songs came out. Still I do love 50's and 60's music. Motown was great, and left us with so much memorable music.
