The year 1936 was hotter. This is just being used by democrats to push the global warming agenda, it's summer and it's hot in summer, I like it hot myself- and the sun is burning hotter but they never mention that. The sun is very active, a hotter sun means a hotter Earth- no rocket science or climate change involved. I'm running in the Furnace 5K next month on a hot Friday afternoon in August I think the race date is August 23rd. Dallas is having the "Hotter than hell half marathon" race in August. Summer 1936 remained the warmest summer on record in the USA since official records began in 1895, until 2021. 2023 was the hottest year on record since records began. Yes, the sun has gotten hotter over the course of its 4.5 billion year history. The sun's brightness increases by about 10% for every billion years it burns hydrogen, which means Earth receives more heat from it. The sun's core is also hotter, at over 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. However, the sun's temperature doesn't impact short-term climate change. While daily fluctuations in the sun's radiation can affect weather, they don't cause climate change. I was talking about the sun being active with sun spots this year. The sun goes thru a 11 year cycle, when the sun is active with sun spots it burns hotter and if the sun is hotter it stands to reason Earth will hotter too. Yes I know the sun gets hotter every billion years but then the sun stays hotter. The sun today is 30% brighter & hotter than back when it was formed, that's all fine. I'm talking about a solar cycle of 11 years. The sun also has a lull of solar activity and the sun burns cooler those times, solar cycles come & go.. Anyhow the sun's solar cycle and the hotter sun is never talked about they just talk about 'climate change' as mans fault, when actually the sun is the biggest and only driver of our climate. If the sun would go out we'd end up at absolute zero and our solar system planets will all ice over.

And that should tell you right there that the solar maximum cycle has little affect on earth's temperature since it has been going on for billions of years and yet temperature fluctuations on a grand scale do not happen every eleven years. A simple google search will bring up tons of scientific rebuttal to your "theory".

Just outside small town near west of Chicago while going for a walk in a rural area where I bought my first home in 1980, I discovered a National weather service recording station in a field. A small brick building about the size of a one car garage with the sensors on top and the north side. Today almost 45 years later it is still there and in use. It's now about 50 feet away from a schools blacktop parking lot, and totally surrounded by houses of an urban subdivision. The national weather service refers to these stations as data points.
Just finished reading up the new additions to this thread.
With the term 'urban heat island' sitting in my head right now, does anyone think that urbanization ongoing in the US might affect anything in regards to global warming data ?

At least in the Northeast I can't remember a more humid summer. Yesterday was brutal. Dew point was close to 80

How on earth do people cope in that kind of heat? And it carries on for a long time doesn't it?

That's what I thought. Without AC things would be unbearable.
But then again there are still people who don't have it, that must be so hard for them.
Back then they had no choice, but maybe the earth was not burning up like it is now either..

Its hot here today, record breaking heat.
I have just heard how many parts of Italy and Greece are burning. Wildfires are approaching many small towns.

Even addressing climate change it will take a long time to turn it back to the way things were. That is why I want to move to the mountains.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it is not a whole lot better in the mountains. Hot, dry, uncontrollable wildfire burning. Although there is one good thing, besides the lack of humidity, and that is that the temps do drop after the sun goes down.

Back then they had no choice, but maybe the earth was not burning up like it is now either.. We never really needed A/C here so many older condos and almost all houses did not have it. Typically there might have been a week in August that was hot enough to need relief. Now we have weeks on end of heat and dry spells that break heat records and turn the forrest into tinder. If I see and feel the changes and say anything I get attacked by climate denial. Its nutty and quite scary TBH.

I am headed for the Blue Ridge. Not immune to fire but nothing like what is happening out there.

The deniers apparently don't live in areas that are being seriously affected. Yet.
