This year Canadian Thanksgiving day is on the 11th of October and the US Thanksgiving is on 25th of November.
It's a public holiday here and largely celebrated, as it is in the US.
"Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. While perhaps religious in origin, Thanksgiving is now primarily identified as a secular holiday."
Originally, once harvesting of the crops was complete, farmers would have a big family get together/party to 'give thanks' for what they had harvested. Nowadays, Turkey is usually the chosen meat on the menu, and family from far and wide are expected to drive or fly 'home' to an annual get together. Sometimes this is the only time the whole family will all be together for that year.
Does anyone celebrate it at all?

Not really.
Many years I used to escape to sunnier place, or across the pond.

I do, it's always a holiday here. It's nice to have the family all home for once. I'm finding that's becoming a rare event nowadays, as my kids get older.
I'd like to keep it going, I think it's a nice tradition.

My whole family gets together and has the traditional food -- turkey etc. By whole family I mean my parents, their five kids & spouses, and lots of grandkids. So it's a fun chaotic time. We always do this at my sister's. That's because my husband and her husband are deer hunters. Where we live deer hunting season is only one week long, and always Thanksgiving week, and she lives in an area that is good for hunting. I don't much like pumpkin pie myself.

All public holidays are an excuse for elaborate meals in France, but there are no holidays until All Saints Day on November 1st. There are various "vendanges"(grape harvest) festivals at this time of year, but nothing really traditional or family oriented.

I don't like pumpkin pie either. It's so tasteless and bland.
