Yet another 'Crime of honour', and this time right in Montreal. Link: news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/cbc-article.aspx?cp-documentid=24564741Quote: A Montreal-area mother has been charged with attempted murder after her teenage daughter was hospitalized with stab wounds in what police are calling a "crime of honour."This time a daughter is attacked by her own Afghanistani mother. This has been going on for so long now. Both here, in the UK and the States. Any thoughts on this at all?

This is something that will not go away. I had a French friend working in Djibouti (sp) and he befriended a girl there. She told him that if her brother or family member sees her walking with him she will be lynched or worse.
She had a vagina sewn up like they do to young girls and i think before he left she was told to marry some old guy in a neighbouring country.

That's awful, James. I had heard of how in some places they sew up girl's vaginas, I found it quite shocking to learn this. And then I've heard that a man can have his wife's vagina sewn up while he is away on business so that she doesn't 'stray'. How inhumane is that?

Oh no, another case of 'honour killing' brought to light. Link: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/south_asia/10334529.stmQuote: Two days after teenage lovers Asha and Yogesh were brutally killed, Swaroop Nagar colony on the north-western outskirts of the Indian capital, Delhi, is still trying to come to terms with the tragedy. Asha's family was opposed to a marriage because Yogesh belonged to a different, lower caste. Police have described the murders as a case of "honour killing".
They have arrested Asha's father and uncle in connection with the deaths and are looking for others.
Very sad and tragic.

A man here in Dallas took his daughter for a drive and killed her, the 911 tape was played on tv of her begging him to stop stabbing her. It used to be on youtube but when I looked just now has been removed. The guy fled and they cannot find him. I don't get it and I don't think we have a punishment cruel enough for this nonsense.

gertie, I remember seeing that when the news first came out. Very shocking. Wasn't the father Egyptian and the mother American? Just awful. I hope they found him and put him away for life.

The above quote seems to hit the mark. The world has moved on, but unbelievably some are still sticking to these old rules and beliefs.

How awful Spinny. And so many women do fall for the wrong guy. And so many stories of Western women marrying Muslim men and then finding out afterwards what's really in store... This reminds me of the movie and book 'Not without my daughter'. I found the story fascinating and horrifying at the same time. I saw an interview of the woman who this story was based on and she had much to say about the subject. Not without my daughter: www.imdb.com/title/tt0102555/

It's very ingrained in the minds of the people. The boys are taught 'this is how it is and this is your role' and so are the girls.
