EU prosecutors have accused seven people, including doctors and a health official, of trafficking kidneys through a clinic in Kosovo. Link: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11741964I can't believe that even doctors would get involved in such a scam. Do you think that buying and selling of organs should be something that should be made widely available?

I agree, Spindrift. Doctors can be the worse culprits in such things - because they know they an easily get away it.
I have heard of Organs being sold in other countries too. China has a very bad human rights record, the things done there, without any compassion shown to the everyday person, are just mind boggling.
Yes, that's disgusting. I do wonder how many innocents are killed and used in this way.

Disgusting is too tame of a word. There are people dying every day because they are on a list to receive organs. However, if you are rich or famous then somehow "you go to the top of the list". This is why I am an organ donor and it is on my driver's license. My will also states that my body is to go to medical research. The only thing that should be planted in the ground is flowers, plants and trees. The money that would be spent on a "funeral" and coffin is to be donated and then there is going to be one hell of a party!!!!!! My treat!
And NO, I don't think people should be paid for donation although, poverty is horrible in a lot of places and I have heard that people do sell kidneys for money, just to exist. This is abhorrent to me.

People sell blood. How is that different ? People are dying everyday and bodies lay unclaimed for days. How does the morality creep in when it is better to save a life (Right to Life) than bomb Planed Parenthood ?
yes I am making an oblique reference to the moral play of Right to Choose and Right to Life. People donate organs for love - i.e sibling, child, parent etc. in need of a transplant and a family member donates.
So, once we remove the morality of the reason, why should not monetary transaction not be a valid reason ? We kill innocent animals for our protein needs. We stuff and bloat ducks so that Foe Gras in light butter and herbs is served on our tables, yet we bomb clinics where an unwanted pregnancy is terminated.
It is all quite murky, we need to peel the issues layer by layer.

I think selling organs for money is not right. Especially if the person is still alive. I have heard that people in very poor countries will sell one kidney because they think they can live (or are told) they can live just as well with the other one.
I would give up a kidney for my kids in a blink of an eye if they needed it to survive. And I have no problem with carrying my donor card or leaving my body to science once I am dead. But some of the practices in China, for instance, where people are put to death and then their organs collected by traveling vans is very gut wrenching. Inhuman really.
