They had a roller coaster in Las Vegas called "The Stratosphere" built in 1996 and took down in 2005 it was built on top of the Stratosphere Tower in Vegas and was about 300 meters off the ground (about 900 feet- taller than many skyscrapers) Dunno why they took it down - guess it did not attract enough riders and the maintenance on it was $500,000 a year. A youtube video of that would not post.

I wanted to ride it but never got 'round to it. I remember when they were building that Stratosphere Tower, right next to Bob Stupaks Vegas World-- the year was '84. Bob Stupak's Vegas World also expanded hotel rooms from a small tower to a large tower. During construction they had some tower issues with the legs I forgot what it was-- also earth quakes were a concern. Bob Stupaks Vegas World was a pretty good casino back in the day- they gave ya free coupons for a free spin on the roulette wheel, a free blackjack table play, and free coupons or discounts for food, it was geared to tourists. I dunno what happened to that place, things change in Vegas real fast. I have not been in Vegas for years.

I guess that Stratosphere Tower has other rides on it today, one is some sort of Bungee drop, and some other ride that spins ya around over the edge with your legs dangling 300 meters off the ground.

He really wants to do the bungee jump. Not my style.

Hey Springschick how much do they charge for those tower rides? Is there a restaurant up there too? The roller coaster was taken down I think in 2005 or 2006. I dunno why they took it down other than all sorts of rumors not enough people riding it, the cost to keep it running, safety issues and the like.

Six Flags used to be the king of roller coaster but I guess Cedar Point passed them. The 6-flags coaster in Georgia was built in 1973 and called "The Great American Scream machine". I rode that one.
Then in 1976 6-Flags in St. Louis built a coaster called "Screamin' Eagle" that was bigger and faster than the Georgia coaster. I rode that one too. The ride lasts 3 minutes.

I think the one in Georgia was the last one I rode. I was 17 at the time.

A short fun quick out & back roller coaster is the old "Blue Streak" at Cedar Point, it's an old coaster build in 1964. At some places the coaster offers negative "G's" such as the little double hill they have in the track, today they like to do away with negative "G's on coasters- that's where your lifted out of your seat and fly up against the safety bar. New coasters like to push you down into your seat with positive 'G' forces for safety reasons tracks are banked so that instead of your body pushing against the side of the coaster on curves your pushed down deeper into your seat. Most roller coaster designers like to have a coaster run at about 3-4 G's, but some go as high as 5 G's. Cedar Point has tons of roller coasters I rode the Gemini twin Coaster back when it was new.

This is the old Blue Streak coaster form Cedar Point built in '64 it's a simple out and back coaster but has a section that features negative G's as you bounce off the seat.

I think it's about 131 on the clock where ya hit negative G's on this coaster, over some small hills like that. New coasters are designed not to have neg. G's.

I hate those things. Rusty will >🤮 I think they are building rollers coaster that are a bit over the top nowadays. and accidents have and do happen. Today ya can build a roller coaster too good and so fast that you don't really get the experience, I don't think there are many accidents though, the steel coasters are very safe the wheels lock around the steel bar tracks. Roller Coaster designers have to do a balancing game make the coaster fast & fun but not too fast and that experience is lost. google & youtube have alot of info on that. Anyhow that old 1964 Roller Coaster at Cedar Point (Blue Streak) is worth a ride, even though it's short, it's fun & historic, personally I like the negative "G's" today coasters are designed not to have negative G-forces.

BTW I learned why those loop coasters have loops shaped like a oval or "tear drop" and are not a perfect circle, if a coaster track has a perfect circle loop when the coaster cars go into the circle they are at a slower speed and they run thru the top of the coaster circle loop too slow that the people inside lose "G" forces and are pushed down against the safety bar. If they shape the loop as a oval or tear drop the coasters hit the loop faster and at the top of the oval the "G" forces are strong enough to hold and push the rides into their seats and not against the safety bar, or downward. Coaster tracks are also banked so that on curves riders are pushed down into the seats and not against the side of the roller coaster cars.
If ya notice on the "Blue Streak" video that old 1964 coaster does not have banked tracks so on the curves the riders are pushed against the sides of the cars. If ya look at the videos of newer roller coasters the tracks are banked both steel and wood coasters.
