Self-serve checkouts, customers should get a 10% discount for using them since they save the store money on labor as the customer does all the work- My favorite call at the self service checkout:"unexpected item in the bagging area" then you have the bill slot that keeps spitting out the bill, or the cashier has to over ride something.

Restrooms: Automatic faucets that won't turn on, or won't stay on long enough, they are also bad for the environment since they use batteries that go in landfills, same with the automatic paper towel dispensers, they roll out 10cm of towel (that is if they even work half the time they don't work). What was so wrong with the good old fashioned crank type towel dispenser, no batteries and you don't have to wait for some sensor.

Not having to touch a faucet or dispenser is supposed to keep germs at bay.

Another pet peeve of mine - whiners. People who complain about everything but never offer up a solution.

The big gripe I have with commercials is that they have a trick with the volume to make them sound artificially loud, even though the volume level is the same.
The practice should be banned.
I have lot so similar gripes with advertisers such and the ones on the internet with lot of adverts that gobble up so much computer resources they grind your computer to a halt.
My solution is to avoid such sites so it is really counter productive for the advertiser so I don't know what they bothers.
It is a common problem with advertisers on every level they advertising and sales techniques are so annoying they put me off the product altogether, unfortunately they do not seem to cares, it seem their good is to just to annoy people.
Same with pushy sale people, cold callers etc.... a counter productive practice.

Commercials. I have not the patience for them. I record almost everything I watch (except for C-SPAN) and skip the commercials. US TV seems to have more adverts that UK TV I find, seems to be almost a 50/50 split between programming and adverts. Worst thing is they even have adverts on paid for channels! No adverts on the BBC though, however I think the commercial channels make more effort to keep viewers tuned in.

And, furthermore, I have never purchased anything because of a commercial. Neither have I the fact it is advertised suggests a) It is rubbish. b) It is over priced as you are paying for the advert too. However with some stuff it is a monopoly or near monopoly so you pretty much have to buy the product anyway and the advertising just makes it more expensive. Mind you there is a lot of money in advertising as some people will buy pretty much anything they see advertised. At the end of the day if it was really any good they would not need to advertise it!

I don't know about it all being rubbish. Our local grocery stores run sale commercials - that is how I found out about NY Strip Steaks for $4.77/lb. Definitely not rubbish, nor overpriced!

How not enough water and soap is supposed to keep germs at bay is news to me. half the time no water even comes out of the faucet or the paper towel thing doesn't work. The batteries they run on are bad for the environment too. Give me the old fashioned crank paper towel dispenser and a real faucet with knobs.

Commercial breaks are much longer today then they were in past generations, so much so that when they show an old TV program they have to cut out more minutes of the old show so the extra commercials will fit the time slot, one example is "All In The Family" it aired in 1971 for 24 or 25 minutes, today when a re-run of it is shown they have cut it down to something like 22 minutes. Commercial creep seems to be getting worse, there are some shows that have so many commercials that it's not worth watching- I turn it off. The morning TV news programs (Like Good Morning America) come back form a commercial break talk two seconds about what is up & coming and go back to more commercials, then they give the weather report and go to more commercials. In the 1950's TV shows were sponsored by a company and they had hardly any commercials.

I think you just don't know how to activate the sensors.

The commercials give you time to go to the restroom, get a snack, talk about what you just saw with whomever you are with. Besides, the commercials keep the shows you like to watch funded.
