At long last we have overcome the curse of the play-offs. Nine times we have made the play-off and nine time we have failed.
Finally, on our tenth attempt, we have succeeded.
It could have been even better than a 2-0 victory if Ivan Toney's spectacular volley had gone in rather than hitting the post and falling just on the wrong side of the goal line!
Toney will score plenty of goals in the Premier League and he has already said how much he is looking forward to being a top-flight striker.
I am not naive; I recognise that probably we will be relegated back to the Championship.
But at least we will have one season playing against Chelsea, Liverpool, the Manchester clubs and the rest of the Premier League teams!
Bees fly high at last!

*dusts off thread*@mikemarshall3, your Bees hit off in the top-flight in style... (BBC Sport)A long time comingFT: Brentford 2-0 Arsenal--Brentford have won their first top-flight match since 5 April 1947, when the Bees won 2-1 at Leeds United. Arsenal have lost against a promoted side for the first time since a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa on 21 July 2020. It's only the second time in the last 10 seasons that Brentford have won their opening match (W2-D4-L4). WELCOME TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE, BRENTFORD!

And today we won our first game - a 2-0 victory over Arsenal!
Temporarily we are top of the Premier League!
I am so excited - I was very nervous about our chances against Arsenal.

Mike, Brentford came to play with hearts on sleeves, giving it their all for 90 minutes. Arsenal, on the other hand, figured they go in, get the points and walk out. Turns out they got taught a lesson in humility.

I think it is a good illustration of the saying about 'hungry fighters!'
But I am not so sure that Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and the other big boys will be so complacent.

Congratulations! Hopefully it's a sign that, now that you've made it up, you can stay up .

I know Wolves are having a disappointing season but they are still a hard side to beat particularly at home. Ivan Toney is a true gem and a steal in the present crazy market prices - he only cost us 5 million pounds to sign from Peterborough. I am actually beginning to hope that we may survive - particularly with Norwich continuing to flip-flop divisions and Burnley and Newcastle looking increasingly likely relegation candidates. 9th in the table is good but I would settle for 17th at the end of the season!

We crushed Oldham 7-0 in the Carabao Cup today! I have seen a lot of English cup competition ass-whoopings...Brentford's 7-0 was "whoop the hell outta' Oldham, throw 'em under the Bees' bus, turn around and then whoop 'em again!" Wash. Rinse. Repeat. In other news, Mike, my beloved Liverpool had a more sedate affair, thumping Norwich City 3-0 out at Carrow Road...

Well, yes, but Norwich, perennial flip-flops though they are, are a better team than Oldham!

The draw for the next round has been made and we have a difficult but certainly winnable away tie against Stoke. Webster, Liverpool are playing Preston - surely that should be a straightforward win for the Scousers?

Webster, Liverpool are playing Preston - surely that should be a straightforward win for the Scousers? Should be but nothing's ever for certain in English cup competitions; I mean, did anyone think Wycombe would score a goal at the Etihad Plastihad vs. City?(Of course, City then spanked the hell outta''em 6-1 but still...). As for Stoke? The Potters are a good club; heck, its' been a couple years and I'm still ticked at Stoke's 6-1 beatdown they put on the Reds (and on Steven Gerrard's final day as a Red too!)

(The Guardian)Full-time: Brentford 3-3 LiverpoolWHAT A GAME! It really was pulsating stuff, with Brentford coming back twice when it looked like Liverpool were taking control of proceedings.

Yes, it was a thriller and I was surprised that we were able to claw our way back. As Klopp said, we never stopped fighting and a draw against Liverpool feels like three points!
Perhaps the title race will be more open this season; even Brighton are proving to be a surprise package!
