We were away for a few days. In the meantime our good form continues. We claimed another scalp from an established Premier League side with a 2-1 win against West Ham at their ground. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58667910

Our early good start to the season appears to be falling away. Losing 1-0 to Chelsea and 2-1 to Leicester is acceptable; they are two of the best teams in the Premiership. We then beat Stoke 2-1 in the Carabao Cup but then collapsed against Burnley to lose 3-1 which was very worrying. However, in our latest game we lost 2-1 to Norwich which is unforgivable. They are doomed to relegation and on our current form we need to start worrying about that possibility.

(The Guardian)Howe appointment 'terrible timing' for Brentford, says FrankThe Brentford head coach Thomas Frank says Newcastle’s change of manager is “terrible timing” for his side. The Bees, on a run of four successive Premier League defeats, travel to St James’ Park for Eddie Howe’s first match in charge. With a sell-out crowd ready to roar on the new regime and players keen to impress their new manager Frank is wary of what might lie in store for his side with little useful analysis to fall back on. “It’s impossible to predict. It’s terrible timing for us because normally when you are going to all the other games you played - maybe except for the first one against Arsenal - we can analyse their last games,” Frank said.“Now there is a new manager coming in with a new style of play so we actually haven’t looked that much at Newcastle, more what Eddie did at Bournemouth. “I think he is an extremely talented manager. He is one of the most interesting, young English managers and I’m very surprised he’s not had a job for 16 months. He stands for progressive football, front-foot pressing and wants to dominate on the ball and did a top job at Bournemouth, a job I admired a lot. I can’t be 100 per cent sure on (Newcastle’s) shape but I expect them to come flying out pressing us.”(PA)

Well, I was nervous about the match but we drew 3-3 and with other results going against them Newcastle are now bottom of the Premiership. Howe has a huge job ahead of him while we look as if we will probably finish in mid-table which is far better than I feared before the season began!

FWIW, Mike, I think Brentford's acquitted themselves pretty well thus far.

A difficult game today at home to Everton. The match was fairly even but Ivan Toney yet again scored the goal that mattered. To think we paid Peterborough £5million for him and his current valuation is £40million!
1-0 is a good result against an established Premier League side and keeps us away from the relegation dogfight.

An unfortunate 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in a match where we could have scored 3 or 4 goals and Toney missed the best chance of the match was followed by a 2-2 draw with Leeds where we had led 2-1 for most of the match but Leeds scored a late equaliser.
Tonight we beat Watford 2-1 to restore our position and I continue to hope that we can survive in the Premier League and hopefully build on our success to create a platform for bigger and better things next season.
We are now in 9th place!

Sadly, our Carabao Cup run is over. We lost 2-0 in the quarterfinals to Chelsea who now face Tottenham in one semi-final while Liverpool (who drew 3-3 with Leicester but won on penalties) face Arsenal in the other.

An incredibly brave performance against Manchester City where we could have won the game but a very poor City side managed to win 1-0. We are slipping down the table but I still feel we have enough grit and skill to survive - especially with Norwich, Burnley, Watford, Leeds and Newcastle all struggling.

In complete contrast to our game against Manchester City where we lost 1-0 but were by far the better side, today we beat Aston Villa 2-1 in spite of being outplayed for most of the game.
Villa failed to take several chances whereas we made our few opportunities count. Our winning goal was rather fortunate but they all help to keep us away from the relegation dogfight and in mid-table!

A disappointing performance against Southampton where we conceded an early goal, equalised and then, in the second half, ran out of steam and lost 4-1. It was one of our worst games of the season and we are fortunate that we probably have sufficient points in the bag to survive. If we continue to play as badly as we did against the Saints we would be in the same boat as Norwich.

Today we lost 3-1 to Manchester United. It was a game where we played much better than against Southampton and when Ivan Toney scored we had hopes of perhaps salvaging a point but ran out of time.
Lately we have faced some very difficult ties and hopefully our spirit will see us through.

After a string of disappointing results we have returned to winning ways. Two crucial wins against Norwich and today against Burnley which saw Ivan Toney scoring a brace to give us a 2-0 victory have lifted us clear of the relegation dogfight. We are now 9 points clear of the clubs fighting relegation and although Norwich and Watford seem doomed it is a three-way fight between Burnley, Everton and Leeds. Everton have games in hand so I suspect will be all right. Burnley can be a tough game so our win today was doubly welcome. Leeds are in freefall and may turn out to be the third club being sent down to the Championship.

A narrow 2-1 defeat to Leicester leaves us still slightly nervous but as other results have gone in our favour I firmly believe that we will survive in the Premier League. Norwich and Watford are doomed but Burnley, possibly Everton and Leeds are struggling more than we are so I suspect that one of them (probably Burnley) will be the third relegated club.

On Saturday an astonishing result. We played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and I thought prior to the game that even a draw would have been an excellent result. I was already expecting us to lose and when we went 1-0 down it looked as if that would happen. However we equalized almost immediately and went on to win the game 4-1. If Ivan Toney had not missed three excellent chances the scoreline would have been even more impressive.
Eriksen was outstanding and the Chelsea defence was unable to cope with his passing or with our finishing.
Three valuable and unexpected points - and as other results went our way I think I can almost bring out the bubbly to celebrate the Bees remaining in the Premier League!

Our good form continued as we beat West Ham 2-0. Other results also went our way so I am almost willing to put money on our survival in the Premier League!

Yes, we have made a terrific start to the new season drawing 2-2 away at Leicester (always a difficult ground for us) and then totally destroying Man U 4-0.
As the United manager said after the match, we were the hungry team. He also added that he would have liked to substitute all 11 of his players!
Frankly, United are a side in transition and have been in decline ever since Ferguson retired. Moyes might have arrested the decline if he had been given more time as his record at West Ham shows but he was foolishly sacked.
Ten Hag, the new Dutch coach, has a mountain to climb. United are bottom of the league and Brentford are 3rd!
Of course I know we will slip down the table but those of us who have been longtime Bees supporters can dream!

We lost a close game against Fulham 3-2. Our spirit was there but somehow we just could not find the extra zing in our steps to turn defeat into victory.
But it is early days yet and already I am very encouraged by our performance - especially since we sadly had to let Eriksen go.

Our good form continues - it was unfortunate that having led 2-0 against Tottenham we allowed them to escape with a 2-2 draw but we made up for it by winning 2-0 at West Ham and today thrashing Liverpool 3-1. The Bees are flying high!
