Well, the signature on the painting says 'Bregar' or maybe 'Brega'. I don't know much more than that. I thought maybe someone might know something about this painting or the artist?

I've tried looking it up but have not found the exact painting on the internet. It might be there but I have not yet discovered it. However it seems that Doug Brega is the twin brother of David Brega. And both are New England Artists. This makes sense as the painting I have looks very much of a New England scene. Here is a link to these artists: Brother Artists - linkBy the way these two brothers painted and the materials they used I am thinking that the painting that I have is by Doug Brega. The signature is similar, although not exactly the same, but I have a feeling that the painting that I have must be one of his older ones. The frame itself looks ancient. MORE ABOUT DOUG BREGA THE ARTIST - linkHere are a few examples of Dougs work that I did find on the internet: ON HERE - linkThe only thing that makes me wonder if I have the right artist is that my painting looks a lot older than any that I have seen on the internet and it is not of the same style. So maybe it will just remain a mystery. 306

No, not that, kronks.
Here's a clue, it was once used as some kind of medical device - but for what?

Again it looks like something I have seen before unless it is my imagination.
Looks like the handle is for grinding or pumping something?
Grinding/mixing things into medicine?
Or maybe drawing blood?

Yes! you got it. I'll accept the 'drawing blood'. This is what it says about it: “Patrick writes…“The patient in the 1930s suffered a traumatic skull fracture and was admitted to our hospital with an ear-full of blood. He went home a week later and was given the earoscope presumably to suck any remaining discharge. I am intrigued about the little patent needle which moves up and down as the handle is turned."Kind of scary huh? The instruments doctors used back then look more like tools for torture! By the way, I found another artist that goes by the name of Christian Bergeronm whose painting seem much more in tune with the one I have. 'Born in Clermont, Quebec, Christian Bergeron is an established fine art painter with over 45 years of experience. He skillfully blends nature and culture, the contemporary and the traditional in his luminous landscape paintings. Working over the last ten years on his own ‘prismatic’ style, Christian combines the linear composition of architectural design and the kaleidoscopic perspective of contemporary art. He has developed into one of Canada’s most sought after contemporary fine art painters.
Known for his mastery of the spatula and his bright, contrasting colour palettes, Christian Bergeron draws inspiration from his native Quebec and his world travels.
Embodying an essence of Quebec culture and landscapes, Bergeron’s work was featured on the cover of William Burg’s book,“Literature and Painting in Quebec”.
Today, the work of Christian Bergeron is available at Koyman Galleries, as well as adorning the walls of art lovers throughout the world. He has exhibited widely throughout Canada and the United States'Here are a few examples of other painting that he has done:

hmm... I never thought about that. It could very well be.
I'll have to look more into it. It does look like a signature at the bottom left hand side though.

Thank you for the link spice. The paintings do have a similarity but seem to clear and precise to be of the same artist as the one I have. Of course the one I have might be an older one of his.

Spice, I saw black squirrels in Montreal for the first time, something that we never see here.
lol, blc. I'd love to take that picture. A squirrel with a pizza slice in his hands!
I just read that there are over 170 different types of squirrels.
Just yesterday I saw a fox. And this was right in the City.

We talked with our vet about squirrels a couple of years ago and he was telling us about an island he goes to with it own type. I don't recall much about it. It makes sense though that they would be stuck on that island,
